&lt;p&gt;This castle was originally built as a Mausoleum (for himself) by Roman Emperor Haridan between 135 and 139 AD. In the middle ages this became a fortress for the defence of the city of Rome. The fort received its present name in 590AD when Archangel Michael protected the city from Plague. Atop the castle, there was an apparition of the angel sheathing his sword after destroying the Demon of Plague. During the years of Inquisition the dark cells of this fort were used for imprisoning and torturing heretics. Its courtyards had witnessed many an execution and beheading. Giordano Bruno was imprisoned here for holding and propagating the view that the Earth revolved around the Sun which was against the dogma of the Church. He was burnt alive later in Campo di Fiori near here, in 1600AD..&lt;/p&gt;</description>

Old Uppsala was one of the historic places where there are remnants of their early burial grounds which had even pyramid-like structures. This one is adjacent to the Church they built, after accepting Christianity.&lt;br /&gt;
