after several weeks of trying to catch up and always changing plans in the end, we finally did manage to work out a suitable time - monday, public holiday! hehe some pubs in north sydney were closed, but the union hotel was rocking with a trivia night on. we didn't do trivia, just assisted an elderly couple with some replies, but we did have very rare steak and red wine. old friends - lots to talk about. !

we drove out to northern beaches yesterday, as i wanted to get some "moody shots" of the beach during rainy/stormy weather. we had a fun time looking for our "go get" car, and found it 20 minutes away from my place. then we went for fish and chips lunch in dee why - this place is the best! the batter is nice and thin, and portions are huge. i took some (film) photos and we then had a bit of a chat with a local surfer turned shop owner. good fun.

later, we drove to couple of the northern beaches (narabeen, palm beach) and ended up in manly in a funky wine bar.
fun day. :)

ok peeps, as you know,sometimes i do talk about serious issues here, it's not all party and vanity photos ok????? :P
i know that this stream is also sometimes visited by somewhat younger crew, students and generation y, so i do find it my duty to share some of my ~~bullshit~~ life knowledge with them too. ;)

once upon a time, kids, there used to be a craze that spread in the word, called marxism - it was a socioeconomic teaching that there will always be a class struggle between the capitalists and "proletariat" - which is the mass, working class.
this gave rise to communism, an ideology and political structure of many countries, like china, soviet union, cuba, and of course - eastern block countries including former yugoslavia.
all these countries had a different level of applying marxism and communism and later on - socialism. some were more drastic or draconian in it's implementation, but i do believe they were all going through the same motions: they had big carl marx posters on classroom walls! ;)

in old yugoslavia, it was a mandatory class in high school to take - marxism. lol
i never had this class, because by the time i reached high school level of education, yugoslavia was already falling apart and noone believed in class struggle or other ideologies you were "served up" by media and government.
but i did have a class that was called philosophy - which had "metamorphosed" from that old school marxism class.
philisophy in serbian education system is considered a mandatory cultural education class now. you have to know who kant was, what was the relevance of plato to world history and what is skepticism. :/

and now when i see a poster like this, it makes me chuckle.
seeing it in sydney, seems like a bit of a joke (seems like i have not heard the word "marxism" in 20 years!, and who would really still be propagating these ideas, as the world seems to have outgrown these teachings), or could it be that australia is indeed sick and tired of labour and liberal parties and their inconsitencies??

sometimes, i feel sydney is a really small place. or maybe i've just been around "the traps" long enough now to know that many people.....
i was passing by wynyard train station underground food court when i spotted a food court shop assistant waiving to me. i thought he is trying to get my attention to make me buy his food, and i was just about to say, sorry, mate, i've already had lunch, when i noticed - i know this man - we used to work together in shangri-la. he used to work in food and beverage department. i did hear recently (can't remember from whom!) that he did leave, but really didn't think much about it.
turns out john has now joined his family in running their own stall at the food court - more money and better hours - why not do it!?!?
we chatted for a bit, caught up on who's where now, etc and he said business is good.
i am quite happy when i see people succeed in their own businesses.
so i bought a "hong kong tea" at his booth, my small contribution to his success.
i felt very good after that brief but meaningful chat.
if you pass wynyard food court - make sure to stop by john's stall ok!?
