Ecola Falls, along the trail from Multnomah Falls to the top of Larch Mountain, Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area, Oregon; autumn, early afternoon. The pool below the falls is reached by a short but very steep path. Not really recommended, given that I crashed onto my belly while navigating some slippery rocks. This is shot with a super wide-angle lens while standing on a fallen log with the tripod in the water.

Mount Rainier and Eunice Lake and seen from Tolmie Peak, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington; autumn, early afternoon. A bit of a hazy day, and it would have been nice to stay here later into the afternoon and early evening. Had to break out the super wide-angle lens that I use primarily for architecture to fit the lake and mountain in the frame.

Mount Rainier, reflected in one of the MIrror Lakes near Indian Henry's Hunting Ground, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington; autumn, early afternoon.

I hiked here 10 years ago via the Kautz Creek Trail, betting the clouds would clear by the afternoon, but had little luck. This time, a weeklong streak of clear forecasts left little to chance. I also came up a different route through the no longer maintained West Tahoma Creek Trail, which provides an added benefit of the suspension bridge crossing right after it meets the Wonderland Trail
