We took the early afternoon regional train from Budapest Keleti pu. to reach Sárospatak 4 hrs. later. It was after christmas and before sylvester and I found that one of the most quiet and remote places in Hungary to travel to at that time. And at that time we felt that especially this area gives us the best recreation from Budapest. A place where You can calm down, even within a day.

On the way there we stopped at the Miskolc central railway station. Miskolc is the third largest city of Hungary. Closely every detail of it´s railway station reminded me of the old days I remember so good from my childhood. Just take a look at the roof with all it´s lamps, the mood they create and the wooden banks from the sixties, this timeless and seamless clock from the late eighties. Great! This 15 minutes stop and it´s atmosphere took me out of the train twice... out into a cold of -15°C... out into a feeling I was allowed to feel again since 20 years. A déja vu to the train rides in Hungary when I was small.

The calm of the stations of remote villages, where You could only hear dogs barking from afar after the nervous breaks of the wagons stood still. The announcements of the railway employees, sitting in their small control unit buildings. The cold and clean air with nuances of the wood-fired ovens of the houses nearby. The flat lands of eastern Hungary with all their small settlements and highest points, the gemmy water towers.
