Emerging from the calm sea on a very hot day. Deliberately exposed for the highlights to make it a silhouette as this is how she looked with the intense sun behind her.

When we walked into Hammamet town to look around the market, Marie dressed like this became the centre of a lot of attention. Her hair was constantly being stroked and she was pulled into the back rooms of numerous stalls, I was offered up to 500 camels for her (a very good price I was later told!). We had a struggle to get back to the beach. Even walking around the ruins of the fortifications which involved climbing down a long stone stairway we found a crowd of men standing at the bottom to get a view as the breeze was blowing her floaty skirt around.

After that we did have a great time exploring the country but were a lot more careful about keeping a low profile. I don't think she ever did get to try the bikini that went with the outfit while we were there!

Maia's sunflower dance

Maia was the leader of the Pleiades, the nymphs of the harvest in Greek mythology.

Lo kindly offered to represent her in the beautiful fields around Gourvillette, in the Charente Maritime region of France. Her arms and hands seemed to express a kind of dionysian dance linking the sun & sky to the ripening crop of sunflowers.

I saw this dune in the distance from a road at Maspalomas but had to walk across the sand for 20 minutes to get close enough to capture it. It only looked like this from one particular direction which meant shooting directly into the sun - a difficult exposure.
