Kabelvåg is a village in Vågan municipality on the southern shore of Austvågøy island, one of the Lofoten island group in the county of Nordland, northern Norway.

Kabelvåg lies a little to the south-west of Svolvær, the administrative center of Vågan municipality. The village was founded as Vågan in the early 12th century by King Øystein Magnusson, who built a church and a fishermen's hostel there. According to Heimskringla, there was something resembling a town there several centuries earlier — the first known town in North Norway, known as Vågar. The Lofoten Museum, as well as the Lofoten Aquarium and the Espolin Gallery, are all located in Kabelvåg. (Wikipedia)

Lofoten is an archipelago and a traditional district in the county of Nordland, Norway. Though lying within the Arctic Circle, the archipelago experiences one of the world's largest elevated temperature anomalies relative to its high latitude. (Wikipedia)

A small town called Reine (Moskenes) on Lofoten, Norway.

Reine is the administrative centre of Moskenes municipality, Norway. Its population (SSB 2005) is 342. It has been a commercial centre since 1743. Today tourism is important. In spite of its remote location thousands of people visit this neighborhood annually.

European route E10 passes through Reine. The largest weekly magazine in Norway (Allers) selected Reine as the most beautiful village in Norway in the late 1970s. A photograph over Reine from the mountain Reinebringen has been used for the front page of several tourist brochures and books. (Wikipedia)

Svolvaer dministrative centre of Vågan Municipality (9,200 inhabitants) in Nordland County, Norway. The town itself has a population of 4,378 as of 1 January 2006.

Svolvær was separated from Vågan as a town, and municipality of its own, in 1919 - but it was again merged with Vågan January 1, 1964. (Wikipedia)

Saltstraumen is a sound with a strong tidal current located in Nordland 30 km east of the city of Bodø, Norway. The narrow channel connects the outer Saltfjord with its extension, the large Skjerstadfjord. It is the strongest tidal current in the world. Up to 400 million m³ (tonnes) of seawater forces its way through a 3 km long and 150 m wide strait every six hours, with water speeds reaching 22 knots (about 40 km/h). Vortices known as whirlpools or maelstroms up to 10 m in diameter and 5 m in depth are formed when the current is at its strongest. (Source: Wikipedia)

Svartisen is a collective term for two glaciers located in northern Norway. The system consists of two separate glaciers,
- Vestre (western) Svartisen (221 km²), which is the second largest glacier on the Norwegian mainland (there are larger glaciers on Svalbard, Iceland and Novaya Zemlya) after Jostedalsbreen
- Østre (eastern) Svartisen (148 km²), which is the country's fourth largest.

There are also a number of minor glaciers in the area, such as Glombreen in the northern part of Meløy, and Simlebreen in Beiarn. One of the outlet glaciers of Svartisen, Engabreen ends at the lowest point of any glacier on the European mainland, at 20 meters above sea level (in 2007). The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate has monitored the glacier mass balance of the glacier since 1974 and operates a sub-glacial laboratory beneath Engabreen.
