Elephant Rock, Valley of Fire, Nevada

Valley o Fire State park in Nevada was created by the forces of wind, rain, heat, time and even ice. This stone elephant at the Valley of Fire a is huge remarkable landmark of the dessert. A giant rock that looks like an ancient mammoth. Elephant Rock is a testament to the many varied stone shapes at Valley of Fire, thanks to the wonders of geology and the erosive power of weather. As tiy cab see it is an easy hike from the roadway. Lake Mead is in the backgroud. Its about a hour or less drive from Las Vegas and the park makes for a great day trip. Go by the senic route along the lake and you will feel like you have entered a different planet. Here is a link too another super photo from the American southwest.

Sunset at Lake Tahoe seen from the Nevada shoreline as the sun drifts quietly done on the summer night. High clouds break up the ligiht and each second contains its own beauty. The best entertainment isn't in the Casinos it at the beach where you quietly sit and contempate natures daily beauty as you listen to the waves lap on the sand and the colors dance over the sky as mother nature paints her evening picture. TIme slows down and for a short while all is well. Blessings.

Tahoe Vista , Nevada View

Those crystal clear blue waters of Lake Tahoe look super from the east, west, north and south shores. This is about half way up the Nevada side. A great picnic pulloff where we saw some folks get married. He hiked around some boulders and just chilled and absorbed the fine views and beautiful blues and greens of the largest and deepest lake in Califorrnia and Nevada. If you go be sure to spend at least 3 or four days to take in all of the granduer. Like us you will likely want to return again and again.

Red Rock Park is amazing. Great hiking trails, desert geology to explore, rock climbing, walking and driving paths. Landscapes that will take your breath away. Nevada landscapes that are bold and beautiful. Taken on a wintery day just 15 minutes from downtown Las Vegas, down to 25 degrees. Time to go hiking! This is the real circus circus. View LARGE

Tahoe Blue Bay, Nevada

This protected cove on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe reminded me of my travels in Amalfi Italy. The water here is famous for its clarity and it is very cold even in summer. If you look close you can see that the lakeside road tunnels directly through the giant rock.

Valley of Fire, Nevada Landscape

The Valley of Fire is about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. This marvelous state park has been the site of numerous movies (including parts of Star Trek: Generations) this 26,000 acre desert landscape is about as far away from civilization as you can get. Here you'll find wonderful stone formations created by the wind and desert sands, ancient Indian petroglyphs (stone carvings) on the rocks and much desert wildlife. To get there take route 15 north then route 169 west. It makes a great day trip from Vegas and hiking and walks are numerous. Be sure to bring water and a sun hat. Incredible landscapes and photo opportunities too. Taken some time back in by slide film days with good ol Kodacrome 64.

Summer Glow, Lake Tahoe, Nevada Sky

Thise intense colors were a true part of the vista that evening in Lake Tahoe. I took this on the Nevada shoreline looking toward California. Lucky for me the high pressure atmosphere had been building up all day long as the clouds rose higher and higher to help refract the light in the evening hours. Those cumulonimbus rain clouds would grow higher and bigger like super cotton candy trying to rise over the Sierra Nevada mountains. The evening hours are always my favorite no matter which side of the stateline I'm standing at. A great place for a vacation and travel stay. Even better are those lucky residents who live in homes and condo here year round.

The Valley of Fire a fasinating geologic landscape is located only 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes more than 150 million years old. This image shows a kind of pancake rock that stacks up . Bring water when you go hiking here and a hat too. Instead of driving out on the Intertate take the more interesting route that follows Lake Mead. This was all once part of the ocean floor but now its part of natures vast sculpture garden carved by time and the power of heat, wind, and water.
