Another old street in the old part part of Périgueux. It was a rather sunny day but in these narrow streets it is always shady and cool. You can smell history in every stone (or was it someone's dog or cat had a walk just minutes before I strolled by?)...

We left Lausanne after three very relaxing days. It helped us to catch the breath after the marathon of the last couple of weeks at work and also get over jetlag. The destination was Bordeaux. So we drove through South of France with a stopover in Périgord, which is famous for its culinary miracles. One of the things that this region is famous for is duck prepared in any possible way... And of course the famous fois gras (duck liver).

This village of Terrasson was about 50 km from Périgord and I just had to stop the car to shoot some pictures. It was early evening about 6 pm and it was very still so that the old buildings had near perfect reflection in the river....

It is amazing what is possible to find when walking in Barcelona. This is the stone work on the entrance in one of the building on Passeg de Gracia. A beautiful example of socialist realism art of the middle of the last century. The irony is that this art work is in fron of the La Coste shop....

It is all about perspective...

This is abridged version of what Wikipedia states:

Teotihuacán was the largest-known pre-Columbian city in the Americas, and the name is also used to refer to the civilization this city dominated, which at its greatest extent included much of Mesoamerica. The city was located in what is now the San Juan Teotihuacán municipality approximately 25 miles northeast of Mexico City.

The name Teotihuacan was given by the Aztec centuries after the fall of the city, and is translated as "the place where men became gods". According to legend it was where the Gods gathered to plan the creation of man. The original name of the city is unknown but recently the glyph that represents the city has been translated as "The place of the precious sacrifice".

Construction of Teotihuacán commenced around 300 BC, with the Pyramid of the Sun built by 150 BC. The city reached its zenith approx. 150–450 AD, when it was the center of an influential culture. At its height the city covered over 30 km², and probably housed a population of over 150,000 people, possibly as many as 200,000. Teotihuacán was an important source of obsidian and there was extensive trade with other regions of Mesoamerica.

The city's broad central avenue, called "Avenue of the Dead", is still flanked by impressive ceremonial architecture, including the immense Pyramid of the Sun (second largest in the New World after the Great Pyramid of Cholula), the Pyramid of the Moon, the Temple of Quetzalcoatl or Temple of the Feathered Serpent, and many lesser temples and palaces.

The "Pyramid of the Sun" was in reality dedicated to Tlaloc, the god of rain, and was built over a cave, most likely a sacred cave. Unfortunately the cave content was stolen, possibly in Pre-Columbian times. The "Pyramid of the Moon" was dedicated to Tlaloc´s consort Chalchihuitlicue, goddess of lakes and streams, and was used also as a burial site for important people.

This is the last and I think the most romantic view of Terrasson. I stood on the bridge (previous photo) for 5 min breathing in the peace and serenity of that place.... Then I put the camera into the bag and we drove off to Périgord....

This is another view of Terrasson. This medievil bridge reflected in the still waters of river Vezere. This is the best time of the day to make such pictures: the light is soft, there is no wind and this peace before the night falls permeates everything....
