For me, this amazing work in progress is like Thailand’s very own version of the famous La Sagrada Família in Barcelona. The Sanctuary of Truth (in Thai Prasat Sut Ja-Tum) is dramatically set on a rocky point of the coast just north of Pattaya, in the small town of Naklua.

Begun in 1981 and scheduled to be complete in 2025, the project was conceived and designed by an eccentric Thai millionaire (known as Khun Lek ) and patron of culture responsible for the construction of Ancient City and Erawan Museum. A team of 250 woodcarvers are at work on the sanctuary at any given time.

It is in the style of the ancient Khmer architecture such as that at Angkor and entirely covered in hand-carved wooden sculpture. It has four gopura, respectively representing images from the Buddhist and Hindu religions and mythologies of Cambodia, China, India and Thailand. Its purpose is to use art and culture as "a reflection of the Ancient Vision of Earth, Ancient Knowledge, and Eastern Philosophy. Within this complex, visitors will understand Ancient Life, Human Responsibility, Basic Thought, Cycle of living, Life Relationship with Universe and Common Goal of Life toward Utopia".

Captured about 45 mins before sunset at about 350mm. I will be off the South of Thailand for a 8 day trip. Hopefully will be back with some excellent new material.

I took this on rocky breakwater some 400 metres from the temple. It was windy and the sky was hazy. This image required a bit of work in post-processing . I am planning another trip to visit the actual temple grounds in a few weeks.
