It is with infinite sadness i read that Hasselblad puts and end to the production of the V system.

It's been a while i've planned to find one (501cm/503cw), and this terrible news will not change my mind. "Move to the H digital system", they say. Bullshit! Digital will never have the magic of film photography -don't compare the pictures only, but the whole process- and it is sad thinking that beauties such as the 500 series will slowly disappear. These square pictures, i mean real pictures on film, the neat sound of the shutter, and the objects for themselves, see how the owners cherish them! There must be a reason why. Call me retro snobbish but most of the modern gear (except Leica ;) looks so plastic cheap in comparison, without soul.
I have nothing against digital as long as this kind of things doesn't happen. I wanted to think both could live together but no. I wanted to think a company like Hasselblad would keep true photography alive but no. Sure i speak as an amateur and for a pro it is almost required to shoot digital, though this is another debate. Not only the production is concerned but also the way the pictures are consumed. For instance, wedding photography, now people want bunches of pictures ending up on a CD ~~DVD~~ Blu-ray the next day, that will be looked at once, maybe twice, and then stored on a shelf forever. What's the point? And see how many people simulate analog grain or effect in photoshop to reproduce a vintage touch. Also artificially cropping to square format. Don't you wonder why? Why don't do it for real?! Do it, as you still can! At least, try it. For you will love it, damn! ;)
It may sound melancolic, but this is it, the end of a wonderful story. Hopefully a story that will continue to be told by a few ones.
