April 13, 2013, Washington D.C. - While walking around the Tidal Basin in the morning, I noticed these sign, warning people not to feed the alligators, funny! I knew it was not real since it was not a official sign based on the look and the way it was tied to the railing. There were 4 signs that I counted around the Tidal Basin, by late morning the National Park Service personal became aware of the signs, and removed them. The actual DC CODE § 8-1808 is titled: Animal Control - Prohibited conducts (No owner of an animal shall allow the the animal to go at large, etc....) [IMG_0577-S95]

The Scene
Local Time: 6:37am. At 6am, everyone around the Tidal Basin was awaiting the sunrise. Around the Basin you could see the flashes from cameras go off. Here, the sun had just begun to rise over the Bureau of Engraving and Printing illuminating the cherry tress and glowing the water and sky a beautiful orange.

The Japanese Stone Lantern was carved nearly four centuries ago to honor the Third Shogun of the Tokugawa period. It stands 8.5 feet tall and weighs 4,000 pounds. In 1954, the lantern was moved from Japan and presented to Washington DC as a gift commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first treaty between the two countries. Since then, the Stone Lantern has been lit once each year by the Cherry Blossom Princess representing the Embassy of Japan—and only during the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
