I recieved some very good news about a week and a half ago now. Yahoo wants to make me into their weather photographer on a cross country trip across the USA during the month of May, documenting weather in various areas in an artistic way and then uploading those images to them. This is being done as a promotional tool for their new weather app which uses… get this… images submitted from users here at Flickr!

As the sun set and the storm appeared to be dying, something happened. A last tornado of the day appeared while no one was looking. I had seen this funnel but thought it was a rain shaft… then I recently saw it again while browsing through my storm images. I think I'm the only one who caught this last funnel of the day.

This only happens for about a month each year, and I was lucky enough to get to it this year… what more is there to say? Okay, I'll say I got lucky in two ways… this area is so tick infested that the coastline is called Garrapata, which translated means Tick… of which I came away with absolutely not one of them on me. YES!!!!

This only happens for about a month each year, and I was lucky enough to get to it this year… what more is there to say? Okay, I'll say I got lucky in two ways… this area is so tick infested that the coastline is called Garrapata, which translated means Tick… of which I came away with absolutely not one of them on me. YES!!!!

I better get my panSTARRS image up while the topic is still contemporary.

After four nights of being obscured behind clouds, the comet was finally visible. Not the show stopper that many were hoping for, but rather an almost impossible to see with the naked eye event.

I shot this from the Oakland hills from a park just above the LDS temple. The sunset was spectacular and then the comet slowly became visible to my cheap plastic 200mm lens.

If the moon wasn't in the sky I never would have found this comet.

A nice cloud was hanging onto the top of El Capitan all day long, and it made for some nice drama at sunset. Another great workshop with the Aperture Academy.
The Waldo Grade View

It's a bit of a hike, but the view was well worth the effort. I have wanted to visit this spot for close to three years now.

I was checking the web cams and seeing fog off the coast and was happy to see mostly sunny skies. Then just before leaving my home in Antioch I checked again and saw everything covered in a thick blanket of fog.

I decided to go with gut intuition and head out anyways. The payoff was seeing the Golden Gate Bridge fog free as traveled towards it on Hwy 101,

There was still a bit of haze in the air and it greatly hampered the contrast in the first part of twilight, but thankfully the dark of night defined the view.

Taken last weekend in the early morning hours just before a failed sunrise was to take place.

The river was running slow and was a clear emerald green. Scud clouds were forming off of the face of El Capitan. A majestic scene!

Here is my attempt to catch that quiet early morning stillness and beauty.

I thank the Aperture Academy for getting me to Yosemite. I haven't been there in the month of February in many years.

Here's another image from my adventure with the Aperture Academy's Yosemite Winter Workshop.

Some of the students went to get close to the base of the falls, and so I followed them to help out if needed. I'm sure glad I did because this scene was what was awaiting me.

I held my ground waiting for the morning glow to take over the cliffs next to this emerald green pool.

Six years previously in the hot weather of a mid October day I swam at the base of this waterfall… and it was cold. I dare not even think how cold this pool was.
