FYI - This manatee is NOT chewing gum. It is illegal to feed manatees. SO...don't go out there trying to give manatees gum just to see them do this. I don't know what the manatee was chewin on, but IT WASN'T GUM!!!

DO NOT FEED THE MANATEES!!

So...there I was, minding my own business, having a nice paddle on the river when this dolphin swims by and splashes me...on purpose!!! Soaked me pretty good too!

I picked up a hitchhiker on my kayak this morning while I was out on the Chassahowitzka River.
Glad it wasn't a moccasin or some other poisonous snake.

The manatees love my new kayak. They spent about 30 minutes checking it out, pushing it around and smelling it!

Manatee is resting, conserving energy, trying to stay warm.
Swimmer hovers over manatee.
Manatee tries to surface to take a breath.
Swimmer moves in to "pet" manatee.
Manatee makes it's escape...this time.

Manatee did NOT approach the swimmer, swimmer chased the manatee after it makes it's getaway.
This is manatee harassment...day after day after day all day long. You try and rest and conserve energy with this happening to you.
When a manatee surfaces to breathe, they are not surfacing to play with you.
Please mind your manatee manners when you visit the manatees.

This is what happens when the manatees are forced to flee the warm spring waters to get away from all the people the tour groups dump into the water. They use up much need energy getting away from people when they should be resting.

There were several small springheads back in the woods under the boardwalk. The river is quite low as we have NOT had any rain to speak of in the last few months.
This is a beautiful spring and state park. Visit it if you get the chance.

Make sure that you are good and hungry when you eat here. The pancakes are the size of dinner plates! I kid you not!

I LOVE the inside of this restaurant. The interior is what I want the interior of my house to look like. I spent 15-20 minutes talking to the owner who did most of the interior work on the restaurant...picked his brain about where he got his wood, furnishings, what kind of finished he used, etc. Veyr nice young man. He's got 4 kids so go visit his restuarant and help support his kids!!

Was waiting for my paddle partner to show up and spotted this bald eagle in a cypress snag. I was holding my P and S...ran back to my kayak to get my 35mm with 300mm zoom..praying all the way that it wouldn't fly off before I could get a shot.

The tide was the lowest I have EVER seen it. I couldn't even get back into the creeks where I usually paddl cuz the kayak kept bottoming out.
