Nice little ice cream to finish off. Banana with a warm chocolate sauce. Had it with a Pedro Ximénez 20-year old sherry which for some reason I didn't photograph.

"Falso carpaccio de ibérico con vinagreta francesa". Clever dish of Iberian ham, cooked, then served cold in a French vinaigrette. Competes for first place with the scallops.

"Sardinas marinadas sobre juliana de lechuga y con salmorejo". A light, fragrant, refreshing dish of sardines in salmorejo (a kind of thicker version of gazpacho). And in a green plate - marvellous!

"Setas frescas sobre verduras al dente" - fresh mushrooms on lightly sautéed vegetables. Mushrooms are in season of course, but rainfall has been poor this year and good ones are difficult to find.

Restaurante Montepríncipe in the Chueca district of Madrid. A real surprise! Pleasant dining environment, great use of space, large windows for light and street atmosphere but sunken dining area allows for privacy.
