&lt;p&gt;Biological weathering would include the effect of animals and plants on the landscape. Biological weathering is initiated by lichens (combinations of fungi and algae) which live on rocks and do the actual molecular breakdown of minerals.  The amount of biological activity that breaks down minerals depends on how much life is in that area. You might find more activities like lichens in atmosphere the air is humid and cooler. Moss and grasses will next invade the rock and enhance the weathering process. This shot was taken at Yellowstone National Park (YNP), WY, USA. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Within the past 17 million years, 142 or more caldera-forming eruptions have occurred from the Yellowstone hotspot. In Yellowstone, you can see every steps in life forming, lichens to grasses to large vegetation. It has been reported 186 lichen species in YNP. Most of them are yellow in colour due to the pigment called charateroid. &lt;br /&gt;
