Torri del Benaco lies in the north between the foothills of the Lombardian Alps, the Po valley and the Alpine foothills of the Trentino and Veneto regions. All the beauties of Italy seem to be concentrated here in Torri del Benaco next to Garda, the largest in lake in Italy. A town with history and art going back to the beginnings of civilization, a rich array of lake fauna, including rare specimens of fish, and flora ranging from typical mountain species to Mediterranean plants such as the olive, oleander, coastal pine and other vegetation thriving in its mild climate. Immersed in this green paradise is the town of Torri del Benaco, with its picturesque castle rising above and dominating the lake front. The historical centre is surrounded by medieval walls and towers. The vantage geographical position of Torri at the centre of the Lake Garda's Riviera degli Olivi, makes it not only a pleasant holiday spot but also an ideal starting-point for excursion to nearby places. The present castle at Torri del Benaco was built on the orders of Antonio della Scala in 1383 on the ruins of a previous one, dating back to the Xth century, of which the West Tower still remains. There is a magnificent view from the battlements over the little harbour and ancient roofs of Torri, as wellas almost the whole of the Lake Garda.

Hier ligt een autoveerhaven die enkele malen per dag wordt aangedaan door de veerboten naar Toscolano-Maderno aan de overkant. De oude haven is het middelpunt van het historisch centrum. Het is heerlijk om hier door straatjes en steegjes rond te dwalen en de mooie oude huizen en paleisjes te bewonderen.Wie gevoelig is voor sfeer en zijn ogen kan sluiten voor de onvermijdelijke toeristische verleidingen zal hier zeker genieten. Torri del Benaco is een uitstekend startpunt voor mooie tochten het achterland in, dus de Monte Baldo op, zowel per auto als te voet. De hellingen zijn voor het merendeel beplant met olijfbomen.De olijven moeten in de meeste gevallen met de hand geoogst worden omdat de hellingen zo steil zijn dat er geen gebruik gemaakt kan worden van machines. Geen wonder dus dat de olijfolie uit Torri del Benaco, en dan in het bijzonder de eerste koude persing van bijzonder goede kwaliteit is! Een fraaie fles olio extra vergine di oliva is dan ook een heerlijk souvenir om mee naar huis te nemen.

There are numerous fish species in the various periods of the year, freshwater prawns and a varied flora. A number of treasures from different periods can be found on the bed of the lake, ranging from Venetian galleys, which are the remains of the long period of domination of the Republic of Venice in the area, to the warship.

In deze plaatsen kun je slenteren door kronkelende steegjes met leuke winkeltjes en restaurantjes, flaneren langs de oever. Op sommige plaatsen kun je direct duiken in het meer. Duiken in het Gardameer is een sport die de laatste jaren flink in belangstelling groeit. Het aantal duikscholen en mogelijkheden om te duiken bij het meer nemen steeds meer in aantal toe. Er valt blijkbaar ook heel wat te ontdekken onder het wateroppervlak van het Gardameer! Wist je bijvoorbeeld dat er in de buurt van Salo een scheepswrak ligt? En dat er bij Riva del Garda een groot Christusbeeld op de bodem van het meer staat?

Summertime in Riva del Garda

Riva del Garda is situated at the northern end of Lake Garda in northern Italy. Known as Benacus by the Romans, Riva del Garda is on a small plain of the River Varone. In Roman times the town was a commercial centre of great importance due to its location on the shores of the Garda Lake and because of the closeness of the Sarca River. Because of the quality of its climate Riva del Garda was also visited by many literary personalities now it has significant modern expansion around the old centre of the city and the economy Riva del Garda relies primarily on tourism. Your visit to Riva del Garda can start from the Rocca fortress here above. This fortress was founded by the Scaligeri from Verona in the 12th century then restructured by Venetians in the 15th century. In its structure, the Rocca is similar to the other Rocca founded by the Scaligeri family at Sirmione in the 13th century. The fortress is entered by the original drawbridge. Inside the fort you can admire the splendid collection of volumes of the Civic Library and the Civic Museum.

Riva del Garda is located at the north-western corner of Lake Garda - Italy. The town is located at the southern edge of the Italian Alps, near the Dolomites. On the square surrounded by 14th century porticos are Palazzo Pretorio from the 14th century and the Apponale Tower built in 1220 and raised in 1555. The 34 m tower, built to defend the town, had salt and grain stores, storerooms, and exchange banks at its foot. It was used as a prison, then as an observation post during World War I. Above it stands the emblem of this city on lake Garda, emblem called "l'anzolim de la tor".

In het oude door stadspoorten toegankelijke deel loop je via smalle steegjes langs leuke winkeltjes naar de levendige Piazza Tre Novembre bij de haven. De belangrijkste bouwwerken van Riva del Garda zijn de toren Torre Apponale uit 1220, het gemeentehuis Palazzo Municipale uit de 15e eeuw en het kasteel op de helling van de Monte Rochetta dat nog dateert uit de Venetiaanse tijd. If you enjoy a splash around, then swimming in Lake Garda will be something you will love doing! For a start, there are many places you can do it and the water at Lake Garda is so pure and clear, it makes swimming a real pleasure. It can also be the best way to cool off here when the weather really gets hot in the summer time! You will find the water temperature will vary due to the depth of water and position on the lake. Generally, the waters around the edge of the lake are much shallower in the wider, most southern part of the lake. It can also often be a few degrees warmer in the southern lake waters. The south part of the lake is much less sheltered than the mountainous north. The lake is sourced from the mountains at the top of the lake, so the water in the north end of the lake is clearer and colder. Lake Garda, is also the ideal setting for sailing. Take a boat tour on the clear water. You can anchor and swim. A quick tour round the top of the lake soon confirms Lake Garda sailing to be one of the favourite pastimes here. If you look at the harbours each end of Riva, you will see hundred of yachts moored up. The north of the lake is the best place to be for sailing, as the predictable winds and stunning surrounding make it sailing heaven!

There are many quiet areas on Lake Garda with nice beaches where swimming is the most enjoyable. The waters of the lake are also generally very calm but caution is needed when swimming near a swan family. Lake Garda is a sanctuary and nidification place for a wide variety of water birds: wild ducks, bald-coots, great crested grebes and swans. You can swim anywhere in the lake, but our favourite places are Garda, Lazise, Padenghe and the Toscolano/Maderno area.

Het Gardameer, een prachtig en zonnig bergmeer, is meteen het grootste van Noord-Italië. Het water is azuurblauw en bezit een buitengewone helderheid. Hou je er ook zo van om te zwemmen in het Gardameer? Maar heb je er al eens aan gedacht om het volledige Gardameer over te zwemmen? En dan nog wel van het noorden naar het zuiden? Van Riva del Garda naar Desenzano del Garda is maar liefst zo'n 54 kilometer. Het gardameer is heerlijk om in te zwemmen. De temperatuur in het noorden is kouder dan in het zuiden van het meer doordat het meer gevoed wordt door koud beekwater uit de bergen. In de lente zie je de temperaturen al snel oplopen naar aangename waardes. Het Gardameer is een plek voor een grote verscheidenheid van watervogels: wilde eenden, meerkoeten, futen en zwanen. Het Gardemeer is ook de ideale setting om te zeilen of om een boottocht over het heldere water te nemen. Je kunt je anker uitgooien en lekker zwemmen, of je kunt in een van de afgelegen inhammen voor een picknick aanmeren, of gewoon van het veranderlijke landschap genieten, terwijl je verder vaart. De oude, aan de oever gelegen stadjes zijn echt typisch voor deze streek. Met hun nauwe steegjes en bekoorlijke terrasjes vormen zij een trekpleister voor menig toerist.

Malcesine is a small town on the eastern shore of Lake Garda in northern Italy. Malcesine is located between the mount Baldo and lake Garda. It's a picturesque tourist resort with cobbled lanes and a castle, crammed between the blue lake waters and the massive mountain ridge behind, Monte Baldo. In the summer months Malcesine is a hive of innocent hedonism, packed with pottering holidaymakers gorging on ice cream and sunseekers draped along the lake shore. It's not all laziness, however, as the town's ferry connections to other lakeside resorts make it a good base for sightseeing and the cable-car running up to Monte Baldo is a magnet for cyclists, walkers and paragliders. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, and Malcesine lies towards the narrow and mountainous northern end, often compared to a fjord. The town is situated at the edge of the Veneto region, in the province of Verona. Malcesine is a good exercise in Italian pronunciation: the name is pronounced approximately MalCHESinay.

The historic centre of the town Malcesine is a surprisingly intricate with a labyrinth of small shopping streets. In the antique town center, full of shops and typical local bars and cafes, you can visit almost intact antique monuments. Het is aangenaam wandelen door de middeleeuwse steegjes in het centrum met kleine pleintjes, terrassen, restaurants en winkels met een groot aanbod van onder andere lederwaren en lokale lekkernijen. Malcesine heeft ook een kleine haven en een korte boulevard, omgeven door gezellige terrassen.

It's not all laziness, however, as the town's ferry connections to other lakeside resorts make it a good base for sightseeing and the cable-car running up to Monte Baldo is a magnet for cyclists, walkers and paragliders. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, and Malcesine lies towards the narrow and mountainous northern end, often compared to a fjord. The town is situated at the edge of the Veneto region, in the province of Verona. Malcesine is a good exercise in Italian pronunciation: the name is pronounced approximately MalCHESinay.

The St. Stefano Church is Malcesine's main church. It lies just south of the center of town along the main north-south road. The current church was built in the 1700s, on the site of previous churches. The church is baroque in style, with some beautiful frescoes on its ceiling and numerous paintings and sculptures around its nave. It's not hug, so it doesn't take long to visit. On a hot, crowded day in Malcesine, it is a nice cool oasis of quiet.

Queen's Day in Amsterdam is going to be very special this year! Queen Beatrix has announced that she will abdicate on April 30th. On the same day our new King, Willem-Alexander, will be inaugurated. The ceremonies for the inauguration will take place at the Royal Palace at Dam Square and the Nieuwe Kerk. In the evening our new King and his wife, Queen Maximá, will take a boat tour at the IJ. So, because of the inauguration of our new King, Queen's Day is going to be even more party! Because the Dutch people just like to party, we start celebrating Queen's Day already on the evening of the day before! Usually we start at 7 p.m. and go on until the morning of Queen's Day. This is called Koninginnenacht, Queen's Night. There are a lot of different events, some of the best are outside and completely free for everyone! On Queen's Night you can enjoy many different parties and move all across the city from one party to another.

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has handed the throne to her son Prince Willem-Alexander. Queen Beatrix, 75, signed the instrument of abdication in Amsterdam after 33 years on the throne. Het wordt even wennen, maar 30 april 2013 is voorlopig de laatste keer dat we Koninginnedag vieren. Door de inhuldiging van prins Willem-Alexander zullen we volgend jaar namelijk ‘overstappen’ op Koningsdag. Amsterdam begrijpt dat 2013 daarom een bijzonder jaar is en staat werkelijk bol van de Konginnedag-activteiten. Dat wordt weer weer één groot feest in Amsterdam, met natuurlijk weer de meeste feesten, de grootste artiesten en de gezelligste vrijmarkt. Voor ieder dus weer wat wils! Dit jaar wordt trouwens een bijzondere Koninginnedag. Kroonprins Willem-Alexander zal namelijk in Amsterdam ingehuldigd worden als Koning.

To see the extraordinary panorama of Lake Garda, nothing is better than the hiking path from Campione to Prapione. A view on Mount Baldo - 2218m in the clouds with a spectacular panoramic terrace overlooking Lake Garda. Mountain hiking or trekking is an adventure and an experience that brings you in contact with the mountains and nature. Since some itineraries can be difficult for an amateur or untrained excursionist or mountain climber, caution is advised. Starting out from Campione, along the right banks of the Campione River, is trail nr. 267 of the Bassa via del Garda. There’s a particularly interesting opportunity of taking a short track leading to the stream; the pools and waterfalls are lovely. Lower Garda Route with a series of steps that lead to a tunnel, make sure you have a flashlight with you and a communication trench between a canal and a deep ravine. Leaving the metal bridge to your right, you proceed along trail nr. 266 for Prabione, which is right up against the rocks. Gradually, the panorama opens on the valley. Due to the influence of Lake Garda's climate, the mountain is home to many different natural environments: from Mediterranean shrubs and bushes to Alpine pastures and rocky peaks. This is why Mount Baldo covered in clouds is called The Garden of Europe and is a genuine link between the Alps and the Mediterranean.

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. Traces of the glacier's actions at Lake Garda are evident today. Lake Garda hiking is brilliant with so many spectacular places to go for a hike. From Campione to Prabione: the way marked path 267, starts with a series of steps leading to a tunnel and a walkway between the water and a deep gorge. There's opportunity of taking a short track leading to the stream; the pools and waterfalls are lovely. Total difference in height round trip: 940 m - duration 4 hrs. See map. Natuurlijk is het Gardameer uitermate geschikt voor watersport, maar ook lange wandelingen in de natuur. De keten van het Monte Baldo gebergte rondom het Gardameer is één van de belangrijkste van de Vooralpen. Beide hellingen van de Monte Baldo hierboven in de wolken aan Veronese zijde zijn verschillend. Het westelijke deel is kaal, stijl, vol spleten en met weinig mooie bossen. Het oostelijke deel is minder stijl en heeft langgerekte dalen met groene weiden en bossen. Vanaf de nabijgelegen dorpje Prapione heeft u een adembenemend uitzicht over het Gardameer. Je kan dit dorpje te voet bereiken vanaf Campione langs verschillende bergweggetjes. Er is ook een mogelijkheid om naar deze prachtige waterval te lopen en wanneer je aan toe bent kan je jezelf lekker verfrissen met een duik in het water. Langs de rechter oever van de rivier de Campione, is weg nr. 267 van de Bassa via del Garda - Lagere Garda route. De weg voert door het bos langs een muur via smalle, maar goed begaanbare treden naar een uit de rotsen geklopte tunnel zorg voor een zaklantaarn, bij een buizensysteem dat bij een waterkrachtcentrale die vroeger de katoenspinnerij van Campione verzorgde hoort. De bergen aan de linker- en de rechterzijde vormen een wilde, romantische kloof, waar-over na nog eens 20 minuten een brug voert. Na het verlaten van de metalen brug rechts van je, ga je verder langs parcour nr. 266 richting Prabione, die recht omhoog gaat tegen de rotsen. Geleidelijk aan opent het panorama van deze prachtige vallei vanwaar men een grandioos uitzicht heeft over het Gardameer en op Monte Baldo - 2218m. Je wandelt hier langs olijfbomen en kastanjes, langs steile afgronden of naar hoge bergtoppen. De natuur is afwisselend en het uitzicht is vaak adembenemend.

To see the extraordinary panorama of Lake Garda, nothing is better than the hiking path from Campione to Prapione. A view on Mount Baldo - 2218m in the clouds with a spectacular panoramic terrace overlooking Lake Garda. Mountain hiking or trekking is an adventure and an experience that brings you in contact with the mountains and nature. Since some itineraries can be difficult for an amateur or untrained excursionist or mountain climber, caution is advised. Starting out from Campione, along the right banks of the Campione River, is trail nr. 267 of the Bassa via del Garda. There’s a particularly interesting opportunity of taking a short track leading to the stream; the pools and waterfalls are lovely. Lower Garda Route with a series of steps that lead to a tunnel, make sure you have a flashlight with you and a communication trench between a canal and a deep ravine. Leaving the metal bridge to your right, you proceed along trail nr. 266 for Prabione, which is right up against the rocks. Gradually, the panorama opens on the valley. Due to the influence of Lake Garda's climate, the mountain is home to many different natural environments: from Mediterranean shrubs and bushes to Alpine pastures and rocky peaks. This is why Mount Baldo covered in clouds is called The Garden of Europe and is a genuine link between the Alps and the Mediterranean.
