I love how the cages to secure the vending machines have been carefully built to spec.

The imprisoned machines seem rather forlorn, though. It's like they've been jailed as punishment for trafficking in addictive beverages.

John took me by surprise when he rolled up on my chariot, all helpful. "How can I help you?" I didn't particularly *want* full-service help, but hey, It's The Law. What'm'I gonna do?

But John certainly earned his tip! He asked if I wanted him to check my oil and I thought, why not? I've driven 2,240 miles and I'm about to tackle a big mountain.

Turns out John was right to ask: I'm running on sludge.

They don't stock the lightweight oil I need here, so it's off to Wal-Mart's lube aisle for me!

I've had varieties of Thai soup, Vietnamese Pho, miso, and the standard Chines fare. I've never had "Korean" soup.

I actually quite like this dry, little college city. It's cozy, friendly, dusty, and surrounded by mountains.

Heading out of Cheyenne, on my way to Salt Lake City, I saw some windmills in the distance and thought I might try to shoot them. So I pulled over, and grab a panorama.

Unfortunately, the iPhone's tiny, wide angle lens doesn't really capture them well. They are far too tiny in this image. But, view it large, and you can see them.

Tucking In at the Sands Motel

For $37 I stepped back in time at least 34 years when I stepped into room 34 at the Sands Motel in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The moment I opened the door, the smell and ambience of this room instantly transported me to my childhood, traveling across country with my mom, staying in cheap little roadside "motor hotels" all around the Great Southwest.

Last night there was nothing but linoleum on the floor. Tonight, there's a 50-year-old carpet. Thankfully, I'll only be comatose in the bed, not doing yoga on the floor. Unfortunately, there is no tub to soak in, only a small shower stall.

This'll do just fine!

Dirt-cheap, but visibly clean.

I have never actually stayed in a hotel room, anywhere, where the floors were entirely covered in linoleum. But, today, that distinction ends. :-)

Now that I think about it, it gives me some assurance that the floor is actually clean. Because I can see the lack of dirt personally.

There's a reason why motel 6 is an inexpensive place to stay. I just need a safe place to sleep, not a plush pile carpet to roll around on!

I caught this candid photo of my father-in-law when we went shopping for my Christmas present last month: a new pair of jeans to fit my ever-slendering frame.

Bruce is a cheerful guy, but he's especially cheerful when he gets to buy clothes for his family – he's a close hound, himself, and he just hates it when I wear ugly clothes; and my baggy jeans suitable for a man 40 pounds heavier were getting pretty ugly. So, he was especially happy that day!

But if you want to see him lose that smile, just leave your size-14 shoes laying around where he can trip over them. :) LOL.

Snowshield

A week or so ago we had a nice fluffy snowfall that was perfect for making snowballs. But rather than get my hands cold with a snowball or snowman, I got out my iPhone. When I got into my car I saw that the snow still looked quite fluffy, even from the inside.

Since it was nighttime, I also grabbed my mult-bulb LED wand and held it outside the windshield with one hand while composing and shooting with the other.

No snowmen were harmed in the production of this photo.

Not far from the previous upload where I took a shot of the lone tree against the sky, there was a small stand of trees that also stood in stark contrast against the cloudy, brewing storm.

Just a tree I spied one afternoon on my way home. I am always happy when I can find a lone subject standing against an empty sky—hard to do, even in the suburbs.

The bonus here is the cloudcover. It's always nice when the skies comply.

While we were up at her Grandparent's house for Christmas weekend, Ellie needed some time alone. So she took a bucket of decorative Christmas beads to the guest bedroom, closed the door, and indulged in a little creative signage on the floor.

I am sure that when she grows up and has a place of her own, it will be characterized by hundreds of little creative touches like this all over her home.

I know this because it's already happening to our home!
