The last rays of the Sun light up clouds over the famous Jemaa el-Fna Square, Marrakesh.

It seems appropriate that I should be uploading one of my favourite shots of the year as one of my last uploads of 2012. It was a year filled with photographic opportunity, I'd like to think I've developed and improved along the way. Still plenty of room for improvement though obviously, I know this thanks to some of my inspirational flickr Contacts.

No, not the moment the world ended on 21/12/12, it's the setting Sun over the Jemaa el-Fna square in Marrakech. My Nikon D300s has done well to cope with the extremes of contrast here but of course I also took some without the Sun itself in the frame, they'll follow shortly.

One of my favourite shots from my second day spent in the London 2012 Olympic Park. This shot of the highly reflective BP Pavilion was taken just as the Sun started to set.

Another shot for my best of London 2012 set : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/sets/72157631547690563

UK - London 2012 - Olympic Park - View from the hill - popped

Darrell Godliman posted a photo:

'Colour Popping' isn't a technique I use a lot, I suppose you could even consider it rather unfashionable now but occasionally it's worth a try. In this shot I thought the sky looked like a great sky for monochrome but I didn't want to lose the colours of the Agitos sign. So, is this the best of both or simply a compromise that does neither thing well ?

For those of my Contacts who are wondering if I have special access to the Olympic Park during the changeover, no such luck I'm afraid. These shots were taken on the penultimate day of the Paralympic Games, I've just been very slow at uploading them. Of course, if someone does want to give me a job documenting the changes underway to transform the site into 'Legacy' mode then drop me an email.......

Darrell Godliman posted a photo:

During the ten days between the London 2012 Olympics and the Paralympic Games every bit of branding was swapped from the Olympic Rings to the Agitos, the logo for the Paralympics. An impressive feat in itself.......

From Wikipedia : "The symbol of the Paralympic Games is composed of three "agitos", coloured red, blue, and green, encircling a single point, on a white field. The agito ("I move" in Latin) is a symbol of movement in the shape of an asymmetrical crescent. The Paralympic symbol was created by the Scholz & Friends agency and approved in April 2003.

The colours of the agitos with the white background stand for the three colours that are most widely represented in national flags around the world. The three agitos encircle a centre point, to emphasize "the role that the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has of bringing athletes from all corners of the world together and enabling them to compete". The shape also symbolises the Paralympic vision "To Enable Paralympic Athletes to Achieve Sporting Excellence and to Inspire and Excite the World".

This Paralympic symbol was first used in publications and other products in 2003. Due to limited time before the 2004 Paralympic Summer Games in Athens, the new symbol was not used by participating delegations during the Games. At the 2004 Closing Ceremony however, the flag that was handed over to Beijing had the new symbol. The symbol was first used in a Paralympic emblem at the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Torino."

UK - London - Greenwich - Old Royal Naval College - Dramatic vista

Darrell Godliman posted a photo:

With the Chapel on the left and the Painted Hall on the right it makes for a very strong axis, creating an unmistakable silhouette for the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London.

The post-production is approaching HDR as I've made several different exposures from the RAW file and blended them together, even then the highlights have blown a bit.

More of my favourite London shots : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/sets/72157622246523079

UK - London - Greenwich - Old Royal Naval College - Dramatic vista

With the Chapel on the left and the Painted Hall on the right it makes for a very strong axis, creating an unmistakable silhouette for the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London.

The post-production is approaching HDR as I've made several different exposures from the RAW file and blended them together, even then the highlights have blown a bit.

More of my favourite London shots : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/sets/72157622246523079

UK - Oxford - University Parks Panorama

Darrell Godliman posted a photo:

Another shot of University Parks, part of an effort to address the lack of shots I have within my Oxford Collection. This maybe doesn't show the Park at its best but I thought the clouds were wonderful and people turned out to be perfectly positioned.

P.S : Anyone remember the last time we had sunshine like this in Oxford ? It seems a very long time ago......
