Two days ago I joined with my fellow board members of the Entomology Society of Stockholm in a joint effort to reorganize back issues of "Entomologisk tidsskrift" (Swedish Entomology Magazine) stored in the attic of the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm. This magazine has been in print since 1880 (!) and all excess copies were stored in this attic so this endeavor involved hauling several tons of stored material.

Anyway, as you can imagine, you can find a lot of stuff in the attic of an old natural history museum. Not surprisingly, I paid careful attention to the huge pile of discarded stuff from the department of entomology – a lot of which was heading towards a dumpster.

Psychodidae
Size: 3 mm

Moth flies look like tiny moths but are the cute and cuddly looking cousins of the mosquitoes. In other words they are dipterans belonging to the suborder Nematocera. They are usually found in very damp habitats and some species often appear as (rather harmless) pests in bathrooms or around kitchen sinks.

Early morning stack shot in August 2012 of this unusually nice looking (though 7-legged) harvestman. I've seen some spectacular opiliones-species from warmer regions but the the ones appearing in Sweden tend to be rather drab (though I've always found them interesting nevertheless).

This was stacked from 34 natural light exposures. (The original sequence consisted of roughly 70 images and included the perch but I much preferred this partial stack).
