How and why: Spotted this fabulous lime-green lichen in the bend of an oak-limb, covered with frost. The background was a distracting glowing red of autumn leaves, which I had to cure by moving a fallen tree limb behind it.

How and why: The frailty, the slight frost... used the 100mm to isolate an abstract scene against the bright frozen river. Overexposed to increase the light and abstract quality.
Editing: Black and white, reduced clarity.

How and why: I took a similar photo last winter. The reflections were much better then, but the autumn colours works for this version, and the mist of course. I tried to zoom in closer on the house, but I actually preferred this wider view.
Editing: Three exposures combined (sky, water, land/trees), not hdr.

How and why: Wonderful winter landscape and the dark river breaking the calm. I took a number of different photos of the river that day, and this was one of the more complete views. Shot through the fence that you see coming back on the sides.

We got some snow this morning...
...don't worry though, this image is from january this year! You can't even tell it snowed by looking outside now. Guess we'll get more rain today. Probably filled with ash. Anyway, this is in contrast to yesterday's very warm sunrise photo.

When: 20100112, the most misty day of winter, when I learned the meaning of snow blindness...
How and why: I isolated a detail of the tree to allow the yellow trunk and limbs contrast against the white frost and snow. Unfortunately I wasn't able to completely isolate it against a white background, but good enough.
Editing: Some tweaking of the yellow, and curves.

How and why: Wide angle with 3-stop ND to make sure the water was absolutely smooth. The dark river through a bright landscape, wonderful winter trees. And I love reflections
