Andreya Triana joined the Bonobo boys for a great set on the Saturday night. She, and Bonobo, were great. I have to plead ignorance on Bonobo, as I hadn't heard them before the weekend, but they've won themselves a new fan. So has Andreya, for that matter.

This guy's music has meant so much to me in the past 25 years, so it was pretty damn cool sharing the same few cubic metres of space with him for a short while. And talk about guitar porn! The man has taste.

So Neil, if you ever by chance come across this photo, I just want to say thanks. You will never know how influential your music's been in my life.

Considering they've been around for about 20 years, I've really had no excuse for never having seen them live at some point. But now I have. Seen them live, that is. And what an awesome show they put on. I certainly won't be waiting 20 years to see them again.

When seeing this scene on a jaunt with Claude, it reminded me of Escher's Three Worlds. But without the fish and the trees. And the water.

It looked cool enough for us to deviate from our intended path and take a few snaps. In hindsight, I probably should've opted for a larger depth of field.

Bought a bunch of disposable waterproof cameras from my local supermarket a few weeks ago (they were clearing them out at less than half price -- yes, I bought the lot), and had my first opportunity on the weekend to see how good or shit they were. Well, the results are very mixed. The good is awesome, the shit is, well, shit. Still, they're a bunch of fun.

Camera: Fuji Disposable Waterproof
Lens: I have no idea, but it's probably shooting at f/16... ish.
Film: Fuji Superia 800

Many cities have street preachers and my town's no different. What is different, though, is that my town's hate-filled street preachers tell kids they're going to hell. That's right, little kids. Oh, and their dads, too.

Can you imagine how hard it is, after explaining to your impressionable, trusting-of-adults five-year-old son, who still believes in Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, what hell is? Then telling him these people believe his dad's going there? Yep, these so-called Christians are a right bunch of fucking wankers.

They've been spreading their hate-filled vitriol for the better part of a year or two (as far as I can recall) and have recently started bringing huge banners which proudly declare their God hates gay people, those who've had an abortion, those "living in sin," atheists, liars, the list goes on. They're a breakaway Baptist ~~sect~~ cult who believe they're the only true Christians, and claim their interpretation of the Bible is in keeping with the early (and true) Christian church. They also believe the universe is 6000-8000 years old, the Noachian flood actually happened, Adam and Eve were the first people on this planet, dinosaurs and man coexisted and Jesus* was born of a virgin. They completely deny any scientific evidence that challenges their beliefs (evolution by natural selection, a universe billions of years old, common ancestry, proof of a heavily edited Bible etc.) and accuse every other religion - Christian or otherwise - of false, demonic doctrine. Here's a list of their "core beliefs."

After many complaints by shop owners and the public, several members of this group were arrested on numerous occasions for breaking Adelaide City Council bylaws. After the Council lost their case against the preachers in the District Court, they took the group to the Supreme Court and lost again. The group (fraudulently) claimed they weren't preaching, they were exercising their Constitutional right to freedom of political speech.Their argument is that gay marriage and abortion are political topics and, as such, by speaking out against gay marriage and abortion, they're trying to politically influence Adelaide's public. So, as you can see, lying is fine if it's for God.

So the bat-shit crazy God-botherers took to Adelaide's Rundle Mall with a renewed fervour. However, the public had had enough and a few Facebook groups formed in response to these fuckstains. Regular Friday night protests against the preachers now occur and I don't think it'll be too long before things get really out of hand.

I'm all for freedom of speech (even though Australia has no such freedom in its Constitution), but when that speech is filled with hate and has the potential to incite anger or violence, it has to be stopped. These vapid, deluded wankers need to be driven from our preeminent shopping district. Pronto.

EDIT 12/2011: Doing a bit more research in the last month or two and my doubts have somewhat allayed. My belief that this Jesus is in no way the immaculately-conceived, miracle-working, son of God who made a huge impact in the Middle East a couple of millennia ago, hasn't.

Had a bit of time between sets so I sat myself down and took some candid crowd shots whilst Golden Hour was in full swing. Sure, I've now got third degree burns to my cornea, but it was worth it.

Incidentally, this is SOOC. I'm so glad it looked as good on my computer as it did on my camera's screen.
