ever since i got to honduras, i have found myself waking up everyday at around 4am no matter how early or late i go to bed. it's odd--it's not like i traveled across the world. unable to fall back asleep this morning, i turned on the tv. the last thing i expected to see was a korean language lesson. huh. go figure.

when i first came to latin america in the 90's i was struck by the ubiquitous wrought iron gates that i saw governing people's homes. whether it be young star crossed lovers kissing , or children sitting on the floor and playing cards, i've seen a vast array of interesting exchanges passed between the gate. i wonder how robert frost would feel if he saw this.

"vicente vicente" was how his name was said to me when i asked. a native of paraiso, vicente is a "pescador libre" which means that he's an independent fisherman who doesn't belong to a cooperative. we're thinking about starting a program with fisherman like him who suffer from poor earnings during the off seasons. vicente is one incredible fisherman.

yesterday my 50mm 1:8 lens broke. for no good reason. granted, i WAS in a small fishing boat in the middle of the ocean when i discovered it happened. but still, i never dropped it or mistreated it to warrant such an occurrence.

CALLING ALL 50mm 1:8 users--is there any hope?

perhaps it's finally time to buy a 1:4.
sigh. tears.
