The Rim

My Wife and I climbed to the top (crater rim) of Mt. St. Helens. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done but the view was pay off enough. It was outstanding!

This photo is of the western crater rim of the volcano. You can see the rock strata an colorful mineral deposits in the stone.

This photo is from the south rim of the crater looking N/NE past the east rim across Spirit Lake to Mt. Rainier (50 miles away!).

This photo is from the end of the climb up Monitor Ridge on the rim of the volcano crater looking west.

Near the summit of Dog Mountain in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and the Columbia River Gorge. Every Spring, the top of the mountain blooms with Balsam Root and becomes a carpet of flowers.

Southern Crowned Pigeon

Photo taken at the Jurong Birdpark in Singapore. This guy was very bold and walked right up to me.

Wikipedia has more information about these birds. There are only 3 species of crowned pigeon.

Vista Hills

Went to the Vista Hills Winery, just outside Dundee, OR for a buddy's Wedding. The weather was only slightly uncooperative but the winery has a spectacular view from the top of the hill. It was a little drizzly outside and the full valley view was slightly obscured but it was still fantastic.

A presumably retired water tanker from the Corvallis, OR Fire Department that now resides on the Oregon Coast in Tillamook at the Blue Heron Cheese Factory.

This is the view from the top of the Sierra Negra volcano on Isabela Island, Galapagos. In the distant foreground, you can see a parasitic cinder cone. In the distance, you can see an ocean bay, two more volcanos and more of the island.

Galapagos Blue Footed Booby

The ever famous Blue Footed Booby. We saw many of these birds during our trip to the islands. They are not terribly afraid of humans. I was sitting just a few feet away when I took this shot. When it's time to mate, the male does a funky little stomping dance with his feet. Their feet also turn even more blue when it's mating season. Blue Footed Boobys are also amazing fishers. They drop from the sky like darts in to the water to catch fish.

We had a nice beach at the hotel on Floreana Island. This is just an evening shot of the surf washing up. Floreana Island actually has an intriguing history (survival, fighting, murder) with it's original inhabitants who came from Germany.

This is a female Lava Lizard. They don't get very big, maybe only 7 inches (~20 cm) at most. The Galapagos Islands has 7 different species of Lava Lizard. Not sure which species this one is.
