I photographed this particular male Brown Bear last year during my 7 days camping in Hallo Bay,Katmai National Park. The name Van was given to him by a BBC film crew who were filming the recently aired "Great Bear Stakeout" there last season where he featured prominently during the shoot as he showed just who was boss of the Hallo Bay.Easily identified by the fact half his ear is missing this would be my only encounter with him during my visit.

Northern Gannets pictured at Troup Head on the north coast of Scotland on the Moray Firth,the birds have recently returned for this years breeding season.This bird circles below the cliffs before attempting to find or land on a nest on the cliffs below me.

Northern Gannets pictured at Troup Head in the north of Scotland on the Morayshire coast,the birds having returned for this years breeding season.
This bird flares its wings in preparation for landing on its nest on the cliff face assuming it can find the right one amongst them all,on this occasion the bird was bang on!

Yep shes back! Though to be around 27 years old the female Osprey once again has returned to the Loch of the Lowes in Perthshire Scotland for the 23 rd year! Here she can be seen diving to grab a branch which she intended to use for building up her nest.

Brittle branches

Making back to the nest with a rather small branch for her nest renovations. Britains oldest known female Osprey returns for the 23rd year in a row to Loch of the Lowes in Perthshire,Scotland.

The Falcon and Tiercel get together on their favoured mating branch at the nest site at the Falls of Clyde. Shortly after this the Falcon laid her first egg of the season.

Ptarmigan on the move

After my previous attempt at catching some Ptarmigan 7 days previously a better mountain and weather forecast was to tempting to resist. Boy was I glad I made the effort,with a lot of the snow melted lower down and snow higher up now with a frozen crust it took just over an hour this time,and we were rewarded with some great opportunities to photograph these fantastic birds.

I had hoped to be able to get an image like this from the moment I booked my trip,this was as close as I got but I still love it.
This Bear is also scanning the sands for the tell tale signs of clams under the sands of the Hallo Bay beach

Ptarmigan 4

Possibly the hardest days photography I have ever had in terms of effort to get into position,to dealing with the weather conditions and the subject! Over a 2 hour walk in the Cairngorm in the search of Ptarmigan looked to be for nothing when after reaching our final destination wind was swirling in strong gusts making visibility poor and the chance of being able to hear the birds impossible! After looking around for about 1 hour we decided it was best to head back and low and behold more than half way back down the mountains but a Ptarmigan walked right in front of usand duly made for the hills with its partner but not before we managed a couple of token shot! Drifting snow made photography almost impossible to get a worthwhile shot but at least we got something. Further down the hill and we found another pair behind a rock,again they weren`t for settling so a quick couple of snaps only. Now to put the feet up and recover before thinking of doing it again!
