this by far was one of the highlights of our southern Cali trip. it seemed just out of reach, but it was about 3 feet outta reach.
one of the neat things was it wasn't really cleaned up... just like it fell outta space.

it all looks so Imperial Cruiser-ish!

after an hour long hard walk in the dryness of the southern part of the Big Island, we finally reached our goal!! one of only two known Green Sand beaches in the world (the other is on Guam i believe)
we were thickly covered in red dust (the same colour as the top of the formation) by the time we hiked back to the car.

on the original size, you can make out the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope to the left (in front of the hill)...... the antenna assembly buidling for the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory array to the right of it, and the array disappearing into the distance.

the fish pond at the Marriott Waikoloa has a larger profile now...

the tsunami of early March removed the beach that seperated the ponds from the Pacific.
