'Olympiapark' in Munich was originally constructed for the Olympic Games of 1972: this huge and very green park is, even these day, still an attraction, for many concerts being held in the old stadium, its lake, the dominating TV tower and the adjacent BMW Welt...the many paths make it a paradise for joggers, mountainbikers and cyclists, despite (or maybe thanks to ) that the park is quite a hilly environment, built upon the rubble that was brought here as a result of the WOII bombings. The highest peak (save the TV tower) is the Olympiaberg, from which one has a wonderful view on the park, the town of Munich itself as well as - on a clear day- a majestic backdrop consisting of the Alps...

Bretagne is quite notorious for the huge differences between high-tide ('' Pleine mer') and low-tide ('basse-mer'). Two times a day, the sea retreats leaving a large part of the bay decpicted (close to St-Quay Portrieux) completely dry...here it is more or less at its minimum. When it's high-tide again, on the other hand, the bay depicted can, in a few hours, become completely filled with seawater again, right up to the cliffs on the right hand side. Then there's barely a 'beach' left anymore... on average the difference between high and low-tide is 9 vertical metres.

The Woolloomooloo Wharf (also known as the 'Finger Wharf' is the largest wooden structure in the world, and these days is one of Central Sydney's more trendy places with a number of restaurants, bars, appartments and a hotel. In the past however, it was a place for trade (notably wool export) and a place from where troops were deployed. Orginally built in 1915, the Woolloomooloo Wharf is over 400 metres long. At the end of the 20th century, it was planned to be demolised, but local resistance led the wharf to be renovated instead, and it became the trendy place it is today.

Woolloomooloo Wharf by night, Sydney, Australia

The Woolloomooloo Wharf (also known as the 'Finger Wharf' is the largest wooden structure in the world, and these days is one of Central Sydney's more trendy places with a number of restaurants, bars, appartments and a hotel. In the past however, it was a place for trade (notably wool export) and a place from where troops were deployed. Orginally built in 1915, the Woolloomooloo Wharf is over 400 metres long. At the end of the 20th century, it was planned to be demolised, but local resistance led the wharf to be renovated instead, and it became the trendy place it is today.

The Goldener Saal (golden Hall) is Augsburg's Town Hall's ceremonial room and highly impressive.... After the original Goldener Saal was destroyed in the bombings of the Second World War in 1944, at first no effort was taken to restore the room in its orginal and splendid manner and a much more simplified room was built instead. Around 1980, however, the vast project was undertaken to restore the golden Hall in its former glory, for the celebration of the Augsburg's 2000 years anniversary. Based on pictures and drawings from before the bombings, a beautiful restoration has taken place. Costing millions, and taking years, it is almost if the original Hall never was destroyed. Originally, the interior was desgined by Johann Matthias Kager in 1643, and the murals and coffered ceilings of this room belong to the very best of the German Renaissance.

The Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney are a public park right in the centre of the city. It is an amazing place: not only is it beautifully landscaped, but it features a highly impressive number of different plants, shrubs, trees and flowers - many of them native to the Australian continent or from tropical regions. Finally, it is a fantastic place to run, picnic, relax and enjoy the stunning views on the glimmering waters of Sydney Harbour....in 2016 the city will celebrate that it was Governor Macquarie who decided then 200 years ago that these fantastic rich and lush gardens should be built....and rightly so!

I have already posted a shot of this remarkable and sheltered natural harbour in Brittany, France, before, (see below) but that was a shot of boats lying dry during low tide. Here it's high-tide and the mooring posts, which are in fact trees, are already partly submerged with the attatched boats afloat...

Yesterday showed how much people are longing for Spring to arrive....it was sunny, though still cold, in Munich, but people nevertheless rushed to sit outside to drink coffee or have a first beer of the day, as can be seen here at Odeonsplatz, in front of the the famous yellow Theatinerkirche. The Theatine Church (as it is called in English) is a Catholic church, built in late 17th century. It is built in Italian high baroque style, and its design was by Agostino Barelli. Later, the two towers were added by Enrico Zuccalli and the rococo façade was finished a century later and was designed by François de Cuvilliés. It is a striking example why Munich, regarding architecture, is often called 'the most Northern city of Italy'....
