These were growing wild on our trip to Peppersauce Canyon. Calliandra eriophylla AKA Fairy Duster, and not a butterfly at all! Thanks to Plant Collector for the ID.

We also spotted several of these horned toads on our trip. The girls thought they'd make great pets, but we talked them into leaving the toads where we found them, to keep their little "toad families" intact.

This colorful guy hitched a ride on my niece's pants as we hiked in the Peppersauce Canyon area. Again, if you know his name, please share it! He was quite large, about 3 inches in length.

Heart carved into a Peppersauce Canyon cottonwood long ago. The trees in the canyon are massive, some maybe 6-7 feet in diameter.

Crown of blooms atop a single pincushion cactus. The cactus itself is about 3 inches tall, with blooms a little less than an inch across... So pretty!

These tiny flowers are about 1 inch in size but amazingly gorgeous! I'm so glad to have spotted them on just the right day!

The entire grouping of cactus was maybe 6-8 inches across. Tiny little cactus - but blooming with all their might! Powerful little things!

View LARGE - It's worth it!
Had a little trouble with the contrast on the blooms and decided they looked better with no color at all. I like it so much that this will likely be my next framed print. Anxious to see it properly adorned!

Lovely Night Blooming Cereus cactus, the acknowledged Queen of the Night. The blooms were stunning, and such a fun hunt to find them in the dark! We'll take a flashlight next year and wear tennis shoes instead of sandals...
