In August of 2007, heavy rains dumped 18 inches of rain in 24 hours over this area of Southeastern Minnesota, causing flash floods and landslides. The landscape of this state park has been dramatically altered, the rocky area you see on the right side of the river used to be dense vegetation. all throughout the park, areas of the forest have been wiped clean by the torrent, the real trajedy though was the loss of 100's of homes and dozens of businesses, the river is coming back, some of the people are having a more difficult time of it.
