A small part of the growing collection of objects left at Copley Square in memory of the marathon bombings. There are flowers (of course), but also stuffed toys, running shoes, flags, banners, candles, messages, religious artifacts and sporting memorabilia, including this large collection of hats. It seems that people wish to leave a little piece themselves behind.

Tucked away in an alley off State Street are three beautiful cast iron spiral fire escapes. They are more that 100 years old and have recently been restored. Because the buildings are so close together, it's hard to find a time when sunlight actually penetrates within - today I was lucky and got a few shots that I was pleased with.

The annual display of magnolia blossoms on Commonwealth Avenue reached its peak last week. I was determined not to miss it this year - took me 3 attempts! First was too early, second turned cloudy and last Sunday was just right.

I'm sure I photograph these every spring! Still, the appearance of pussy willow and catkins (although I suppose that pussy willow is a kind of catkin) is one of the first signs that spring is just around the corner and that in a couple of weeks there will be blossom on the cherry trees and the magnolias will be in bloom! Actually, I photographed this a couple of weeks ago, and sure enough, these things have come to pass. I love spring! It's all about hope and renewal and the promise of things to come.

I like the way the movement of the people on edges of the shot frame the two stationary passengers. I don't like the cut off feet - could do with a wider angle angle on my G9. Another State Street shot, Orange Line this time.
