St Ives Long Exposure

Sorry for the lack of updates or comments recently. With work and other commitments I haven't been on here much.

This one shot from last year taken down at St Ives from the Island looking out towards Clodgy Point. I'm looking forward to seeing the sea thrift out in bloom again soon.

Polzeath Sunset

I stopped off at Polzeath on the way back from the Cornwall Flickr Users meet as I was hoping that it would be a good sunset. It was worth staying for the sunset, but bitterly cold and with a strong offshore wind making some spray off the waves. I was really glad to get back in the car afterwards and get warmed up!

Luxulyan Valley Mill

This shot was taken at the Cornwall Flickr Users meet at Luxulyan Valley on Sunday. This is the remains of the 40ft waterwheel that was used to power equipment used in the quarrying of stone in the valley. It's quite some place and it would of been interesting to see it all working back in the days!

This was another shot from my last trip out. It was quite something how the weather and light literally got better the nearer to sunset it got. I took this one and a few more and then light just disappeared. It was a good end to a good day.

This was the first time I have been out shooting landscapes for almost 5 months! I had some time off work and the weather wasn't ideal but I was that keen to go out the camera that I wouldn't of minded if it had been raining! But by the time I had got to the beach the clouds started to thin out a bit and there was a lovely sunset.

I took the shot just as a fairly big wave came in and ended up with very wet feet and legs! The worst thing is that I then had a mile and a half walk home with soggy feet!

I took this shot a few years ago and never did anymore with it and just left it stored away. Looking through the archives I came across it and had a play with it in lightroom. I had originally taken it in a portrait format, but thought the square crop worked better.

Hopefully we'll get a few more evenings like this soon when spring arrives!

This is one location I really enjoy going to and taking pictures at. Which ever direction you approach it from on he coast path, it looks impressive sticking out into the sea.

Pink Afterglow in St Ives

This was one of those times that I wasn't really ready for, in that I only had the camera with no filters or tripod. I had to up the ISO enough to get a shutter speed that would keep it sharp enough. It was a great sunset and the clouds and colours in the sky was fantastic!

I took this shot from the South West Coast Path above the cliffs above Trebarwith Strand. It was one of those evenings where it started off lovely but the sun disappeared behind a load of clouds and all the colour went. Although, with the way weather has been recently it would be lovely to see some clouds and skies like this rather than the overcast and foggy conditions we've had here. From here the path leads all the way around Port Isaac bay to the Rumps in the distance.

I had been out for a walk with Alfie, my Springer Spaniel and we stopped at the top of the coastal path overlooking Trebarwith Strand. I had set the camera up to use the path as lead in to the image and Alf decided he wanted to be in the picture and promptly sat right in front of the lens. There was something that he was fixed and he sat perfectly still enabling me to get a few shots of him in the picture.

Durdle Door Mono

Stopped off here last year on the way back home. The closer we got to Durdle Door the more overcast it became. Not wanting to leave without trying to get some sort of shot, I gave the 10 stop ND an airing and had a play. This shot was made up of a couple of exposures then hand blended in photoshop.

Sunrise at Trebarwith

I went down to Trebarwith for sunrise a few years back and had the whole beach to myself. Seeing a the tide was out I was able to walk up and down the beach looking for different compositions from when the tide is in and you can't get down onto the beach. I found this rock halfway up the beach and with the little stream would make an interesting shot.

I was having a play in photoshop tonight experimenting with borders again and whilst digging through the archives came across this shot taken from Coast Path up on Stepper Point. It looks down the Estuary towards Padstow. T'was a blustery and freezing cold day. I can remember getting mighty cold hands taking this photo. On the horizon is a shower of snow working its way up towards Bodmin Moor.

This one was taken last year on a visit to St Ives. The tide was going out and allowed me to get down on the beach behind the harbour wall to get this view.

Stepper Point and Trevose from New Polzeath

Went out the other day and stopped off in polzeath and picked up a coffee and then headed over to New Polzeath. Where we were able to watch the sun setting from warmth of the car. I left all my normal camera gear at home and just took the little compact camera instead. Its so much easier when you can just put it in your pocket and go rather than lugging all the gear and a tripod around.
