For 'Roid Week 2012, Day 3

This is the final of a series of five polaroid land camera photos of our friend's farm. Next up for 'Roid Week I have a few photos I made with my SX-70 and Impossible Project film. I am not so confident of my ability to shoot with that camera and that film, so they will be a little more all-over-the-place than these five.

Here a couple of their farmhands process peashoots. I usually take photos at the farm in the morning and then enjoy the produce that is in the photos throughout the day. It's fun to think that maybe the sprouts I'm having on my sandwich today are the ones they are packaging right now.

Mortal Muses is asking for landscapes, and I figured that was a good excuse to upload this photo from a roll of film I shot back in February (we had a warm winter, and spring was on it's way early).

I find landscapes incredibly challenging. The view can be spectacular, but to somehow harness it to the rules of composition in a photo is not so easy. Also, when I shoot in digital (RAW), it feels like there are a million different things I could do with the photo, before I've even left the white balance area in ACR! It can be overwhelming.

I have been enjoying trying my hand at landscapes in black and white film. Black and white helps to reduce the landscape to the compositional elements, and the fact that it's film AND black and white helps me to accept the colors, contrast, etc. as they are.

My daughters and I went to an alpaca farm yesterday morning to help out with the shearing. We mainly helped to get the animals out of the fields and pens and held them while waiting -- a little more difficult than it may sound. It was a really fun experience.

This is Adele. She is just seven months old, and this was about to be her first shearing.

(oh, and I know I haven't been an ideal contact, but I've been having slow internet issues -- hopefully they will be resolved soon)

Had an excellent day today, for lots of small reasons which included going for a walk in with my Mom in a different direction than usual, walking farther than expected, and ending up right in this spot. It took me a few tries to get the hang of using the SX-70 with the ND filter and the b&w film, but the third time was a charm.

I went back and forth debating whether to post this with its polaroid frame or whether to crop it out. I love the black frame, but I think on flickr, frames detract from the photo and make it look more like a snapshot. I've included uncropped below. Which do you prefer?

I is for In between, for FILM26 (I know it's a bit of a lame offering for I, but I've been having trouble with this letter). I could be for Instant, too. And Impossible, as this is Impossible Project PX600 Silver Shade film (I already had 600 film so I am using it with the IP ND film pack filter).

I'd like to give a shout out to Peter Plaia, my polaroid inspiration, who continues to be a huge help to me. Thank you Peter.

As always, we do a bit of everything. We had our Passover seder and ate matzah for a few days and now we're heading to the in-laws' for Easter dinner.

If these holidays are about celebrating spring, then celebration is in the air. Spring is bursting out all over.

However you celebrate this time of year, I hope it is wonderful for you.

I think I met you originally because Snapyappy kept posting cows for you, and I had to see who the cow lover was. I always think of both you and Snapyappy now when I see cows (and I see a lot of cows, so I think of you a lot).

It's really a very pretty farm, but honestly in real life I kind of hate it. I know I'm being snarky, but it feels fake to me. It's too manicured. The red barns are too shiny. I'm surprised even to see this bit of chipped paint on the fence (I've walked by this farm many times over the years and this is the first time I've seen signs of wear). There are no animals or crops -- except for hay, which is more like a tax-break crop. I prefer the messy horse and cow farm down the street and the lovingly-tended vegetable plot in the other direction. I almost never even see people or cars here. It's lonely.

For This Little Instant (*)

This project isn't so easy. I'm having to learn my way around the camera a little better and I also have to learn to see with its aperture and focal range. I don't think I've gotten there yet. I would have liked to save this for FILM26's "b" (barn), but this is the only intant photo I took this week that I'm comfortable sharing, so I have to upload it for This Little Instant. I'm hoping that at the end of 2012 I will look back at my early efforts and realize how far I have come :-)

(I'm not adding this one to fence friday as I have another photo that's a bit more suited to the group.)
