Fashion model (identified as Lisa Fonssagrives) with English bobby on platform at London's Victoria Station (or not? See comment below). Photograph by Toni Frissell (one of the most celebrated female photographers of the 20th Century), published by Harper's Bazaar in 1951. Part of a collection gifted to the Library of Congress by Frissell. Very poor scan of a very beautiful picture. I tried my best to bring out the contrasts and remove the various artifacts, but I wish they'd clean it up and scan it again.

Photograph by Alfred Cheney Johnston "between 1920 and 1930", but more likely between 1922 (when Stanwyck, aged 15 and still named Ruby Stevens, became a Ziegfeld Girl), and 1926 (when she moved on to greater things). Ziegfeld girl Drucilla Strain, half length, facing right. The (sadly rather carelessly handled) LoC photo description page gives the date as ca. 1920 and her name as Drucilla Straine, but it seems like Strain and 1929 are closer to the truth. Very little other info on her that I could find, except that she peformed from 1929 to 1946.

Ziegfeld girl, Miss New York 1927 and the later Mrs. Ed Wynn, Frieda Mierse (listed as "Freida Miease"), full length, seated, facing slightly left; nude except for fur stole draped over shoulders and front of body. Photograph by Alfred Cheney Johnston, ca. 1932.

From TIME, 1938: In Manhattan, 23-year-old Frieda Mierse, onetime Follies showgirl, onetime "Miss New York" (1927) discussed the problems of her married life with 51-year-old Comedian Ed Wynn. Highlights: She is recuperating from one of "all sorts of breakdowns" she says she has suffered since she married Wynn 14 months ago; she is forced to hire a $20-a-night gigolo to take her out because "everybody's afraid to dance with me on account of my husband." Explained Miss Mierse: "Ed's elderly and I'm young. It's making a wreck out of me. I'm losing weight awfully."

Her age sounds a bit off -- was she twelve when she won the Miss New York pageant?
