Many small businesses on the coast of Oaxaca were destroyed by Hurricane Carlotta. For the international media such an event is a blip on the screen until the next news story appears five minutes later, but for the local people the story doesn't disappear. (Puerto Angel, Oaxaca, Mexico)

Ten days ago Hurricane Carlotta knocked out the lights, water and internet in the town I'm in on the coast of Oaxaca. The lights and water are on again, but I have to travel ten miles inland to get on the internet. When the internet returns...hopefully in a couple more days...I'll be active again on Flickr.

I spent most of the six hours it took for Hurricane Carlotta to pass in this doorway, drinking tequila with the locals and watching trees, signs, roofs and other things crash down around us. My camera was damaged by the water, but the photos and videos survived (Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico)

Minutes earlier we were laughing and joking at the bar about the heavy rain and crashing waves.. Then suddenly the hurricane blasted its way on shore and I ran into a concrete bathroom to protect myself from flying objects. This was the beginning....it got worse and continued for six more hours. Notice that I yell, "porra" in this video (which means "damn" in Portuguese).....I was so scared I momentarily forgot which country I was in. (Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico)
