wild orchids in one of the lesser known white peak dales of Derbyshire.

These limestone dales come to life with an amazing array of rare plants for one or two weeks in the Spring, and then go back to being small unremarkable grassy valleys again. It's all a matter of timing...

Having contracted the Bubonic Plague from infected fleas in a parcel of cloth sent from London, the entire village voluntarily isolated themselves from neighbouring communities to prevent spreading the disease. This self-sacrifice lasted for 15 months in 1665 - 1666, during which 260 people died...

early evening in the coastal landscape in Holland. As you move inland from the North Sea coast, first there is beach, then an area of large sand dunes which gives way to sandy scrubland as shown here. Its a great place to explore on a sunny day...

Here is my old friend dumbfunk doing his stuff whilst exploring the upper tier of Rowter Rocks, near Birchover, Derbyshire.

You can't tell from this shot how freezing cold it was, but the weather brought out the colours of the lichen on the rocks perfectly - and we soon warmed ourselves with lunch in the pub at the bottom...

a depth gauge reflected in one of the reservoirs in the dunes on the Dutch North Sea coast.

These shallow lakes, amazingly, are the source of most of Amsterdam's drinking water. This was taken on an incredibly cold winters day, most of the lakes were frozen (unlike this one) - but the light was incredible...
