Quina desgràcia, les pedres que ens fan perdre la memòria col·lectiva. És com un alzheimer petri, se'n va per no tornar. Però aquí hi perdem tots.

Llinda del carrer Major de Perafita, al Lluçanès.

A shame, these lost stone inscriptions. It was usual for every house in rural Catalonia, to inscribe the year it was built, and it's owner in the dor's lintel. Saddly, this sandstone is quite soft, and it's peeling away, along with the memory of those people.

At least this picture will fix the information left now: year 1701, built by Magimon ... "someone".

Vaja, o això em sembla a mi. Obviament no neixeren pels cantos, però diguem que l'autor del relleu feu tot el que va poguer amb la seva capacitat de representació en pedra. Suposo que els dos de dalt eren altres dos fills (o el marit i el butanero).

Es troba en una preciosa casa medieval d'Arties, Vall d'Aran.

Or at least it's what it looks like to me. Obviously, the artist here had some difficulties in representing the birth graphicallly. The two heads of the upper side must be two older sons of the woman. Or maybe the husband and the lover ;-)

L'església romànica de St. Jaume de Frontanyà és una de les més impresionants de Catalunya, no únicament per la seva estructura i dimensions, sinó molt especialment per estar aixi i tot ubicada en el més petit dels municipis catalans, aillada a les montanyes del Berguedà.

El municipi del mateix nom és el menys habitat de Catalunya, només amb 24 habitants.

The romanesque church of Sant Jaume de Frontanyà is the only remaining structure of the former monastery of the same name. That's the key for the building of such big and old church in one of the less inhabited parts of Catalonia, in the middle of the mountains of the Berguedà. In fact, the municipality of Sant Jaume de Frontanyà is the smallest one in Catalonia, in terms of people, just 24.

Curiously enough, the coat of arms of the municipality is the same of the mytical Kingdom of Rohan in the Middle Earth, a white horse on a green field!

Al poble de Ploumanac'h hi ha un dels altars més curiosos que podeu veure, el de Sant Guirec. Es troba al mig de la platja, mirant al mar, i amb marea alta, queda completament encerclat per les aigues!

Juntament amb la Pointe du Raz, el far de Ploumanac'h (o de Men-Ruz), a la Costa del Granit Rosa és un dels paisatges iconics de la Bretanya. Destruit el 1944 pels alemanys, el far fou reconstruit en un estil neomedieval i amb el propi granit de la zona, el que l'integra meravellosament amb aquest paisatge fascinant.

Ah, el titol es fruit de tornar a veure fa poc la inigualable serie Cosmos, de Carl Sagan.

This landscape is one of the most iconic in all Brittany. This lighthouse was rebuilt completely after WW2 (the first one being blown up by the germans in 1944). But this second version is much more beautiful, built in a neo-medieval style and specially with the very granite that surrounds it!

And about the title, some days ago I saw again my DVD of Cosmos, by Carl Sagan...

Bonic i poc turistic poble de Ploumilliau (Plouilio en bretó), entre Morlaix i Lannion. De fet, tota pla plaça estava complètament plena de flors.

El túmul gegant de Barnenez, a la Bretanya, és un dels més grans i antics d'Europa. Construit en dues fases entre el 4800 i el 4000 aC (aixó és només fa 6800 anys!), és molt més antic que les piràmides d'Egipte, i compta amb 11 cambres funeraries independents.

És increible pero fins els anys 50 del s. XX era explotat com a gravera! Per la part posterior es van carregar una quarta part del volum per el molt prioritari objectiu de fer llambordes!!

Aqui podeu veure el nivell de destrucció sofert pel tumul; per sort un cop arribaren a les cambres funeraries del tumul, l'estat francès expropià el terreny, i s'inicià la conservació i restauració.

The cairn of Barnenez, in Brittany, is one of the biggest and oldest in Europe. Built about 6500 years ago, it has 11 chambers for the dead, and a frontage of 72 meters.

And here you have, one of the most important megalithic monuments in Europe, known as such since 1850, but then exploted as a stone quarry till 1950! Ok, let's destroy this monument to make paving stones!

Here you can see all the 'hole' left by the excavators; inside, four of the original 11 chambers can be seen.
