Mona Lisa (also known as La Gioconda or La Joconde, or Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo) is a portrait by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. It is a painting in oil on a poplar panel, completed circa 1503–1519. Property of the French State, it is on permanent display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.

The painting is a half-length portrait and depicts a seated woman, Lisa del Giocondo, whose facial expression has been frequently described as enigmatic. The ambiguity of the subject's expression, the monumentality of the composition, and the subtle modeling of forms and atmospheric illusionism were novel qualities that have contributed to the continuing fascination and study of the work. The image is widely recognised, caricatured, and sought out by visitors to the Louvre, and it is considered the most famous painting in the world.

Blah blah blah... I've never seen such a crowd just to see a painting...or anything or one except maybe Elvis or the Pope. Hey, Leonardo, do a velvet of Elvis. That'll bring them into the Louvre!

This was a tough one to capture. Not only is the lighting subdued but the painting dark, behind a very thick piece of lexan, the glare is ridiculous and it's about 20ft from the viewer. I was about 30-40ft away from the painting and just could not get closer. This was taken at ISO 2500 at about 155mm @ f/3.2 over the heads of the throng of ooglers.
