Cedar Breaks, May 2013 (1)

Winter made a return to southern Utah in early May with fresh snow on most of the mountains. Cedar Breaks got a patchy coating, it was 32F with flakes of snow in the air when I made this image.

This is a panorama of the North View made from 17 portrait mode images, it's only 50% of the original resolution because that was too big for a JPEG file! Stitched using Microsoft ICE. Although you can only see a small part of the picture on the screen at the original resolution posted here the detail is amazing.
Canon EOS60D with 24-105 F4 L IS USM lens.

Parowan has a small park dedicated to the pioneers that founded the town. I didn't find a story about the grotto but imagine it must have been their reliable source of water.

Parley Pratt lead a party that discovered the Little Salt Lake to the west of Parowan. He sure was an active guy, he traveled the world and was eventually murdered by the husband of his 12th wife. It's estimated he has 30-50,000 descendants today one of whom is the 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

I don't know what these flowers are, they almost look like a type of poppy - help?

First Ascent of Peak 2, March 2013

Having wandered all round the actual peaks for the last few months I made it to the top of the middle peak today. As far as I know the peaks themselves are not named, this one is 6410ft. The views from the top of the Cedar Mountains to the east and the Escalante Desert to the west are incredible.
