Underwater shooting is unpredictable.....the air bubbles, the light, the lens flare. But my granddaughter was a real trooper and we finally were able to get a fun shot of her underwater.

I always consider it a treat to find a mating pair of wild white ibis in the forest willing to stand still long enough for a portrait session....

I seldom get in front of the lens, but made an exception this past weekend at a family gathering celebrating our niece's 18th birthday.

My brother took this shot of my wife and I that turned out nicely....

Great Egret in Flight

Nesting Tri-Color Herons

One of the interesting things about a rookery is that wild birds will congregate at some unusual places....and even more remarkable that they choose a small wooded area on the University of Texas SW Medical Center campus.

Here is a pair of nesting tri-colored herons. At this wooded rookery, they are the rare exception to the hundreds of great white egret and snowy egret nests spread over a relatively small area and surrounded by tall buildings on all sides.

If you are near the DFW Metroplex, it sure is worth a drive to see. As of this morning, I saw anhingas, cattle egrets, snowy egrets and great white egrets along with black crown night heron and these tri-colors. All in a setting where you can walk around the edge and get a real taste of life in "bird city".

When I approached this fine looking anole lizard in our garden....he froze and allowed me to take his portrait without scurrying away. I thought perhaps he felt that I couldn't "see" him if he remained still on the leaf....

I used a Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 lens to create this shallow depth of field shot....focusing on the dandelion gift and throwing our granddaughter's great smile into an intentional pleasant background blur.
