Every time I look at this pic, I laugh until tears run down my face. OMG, what were we thinking? Did we not own a mirror?

Check out those pants on my mom! (actually, I kinda wish I had those pants now) And her glasses! Whoo! White pants and boots on daddy-o! And I'm oh-so-cool in my jumpsuit and lace-up sandals with sideways ponytail look. No wonder that ostrich just buried his head in the sand.

I have no idea what my brothers are doing. It looks like they're throwing gang signs, but they probably just have to pee.

I've always loved this photo; to me it sums up so well the relationship betwen me and my dad: The skewed perspective. The off beat colors. The crazy angles. And my dad, standing on the sidelines, ever protective, eyes focused only on me, the center of his universe :-)

This is the photo that inspired one of those Family Inside Jokes That Will Not Die.

We were living in California when this was taken; the photographer was a nice Hispanic gentleman who had a sort of mobile studio he would bring out to the neighborhoods. He specialized in child and family photography.

At the start of the session, he got Mom to position me on the little bench, one saddle-shoed foot tucked demurely under. He got the camera and flash ready, looked my way, and said, "Say cheese!"

Except that he had a quite prominent accent, and it sounded like, "Say chezz!"

Ever compliant, I piped up, "Chezz!!"

My mother was mortified at the time, but now it's become the family catchphrase at any photo opportunity.
