Crossville Train Depot
14 North St.
Crossville
Cumberland County, Tennessee

This beautiful depot was built in 1900, one year before the town of Crossville incorporated. On Valentines Day in 1925 the depot burned down. It was quickly rebuilt by the townspeople and served the community until the 1980's. After many years of no maintenance, the Rotary Clubs of Cumberland County banned together and restored it. It reopened in 1996. Today it is a gift shop and meeting place. Information from the following site.
Ozone Falls State Natural Area
Ozone
Cumberland County, TN

Ozone Falls plunges 110 feet into a deep pool. The state area consists of 43 acres. I was surprised, since the whole area in this photo has shear drop edges and no railings and no warning signs. There were people on the rock next to the water when we arrived. One slip and it would have been over.

I would have loved to have been able to photograph this fall from the bottom, buy that would have been a long walk down and back up. If I were younger, maybe.

JERRY"S LAW: Always try to photograph buildings at an angle. This will add perspective and depth. Straight on shots tend to be flat and boring.

Sometimes it just feels good to break one of your own Laws. I came out of a side road and when I got to the stop sign, this is the view I had of the village hall. I liked the everything I saw, beautiful old building, nice sigh with rock work, blending into a nice blue sky and that beautiful Forsythia, or as we southerners call them, Yellow Bells..

I drove around to the back parking area and tried all angles but settled on a straight on view. Yes, it feels good to break a rule.

Lenoir City
Loudon County TN 37771

Jim Lockwood, the present owner of the Crosseyed Cricket Grist Mill told me it dates back to the mid 1800's. He wasn't sure of the exact date but said it appeared on the tax records in 1850. The original wheel was an overshot wheel but was changed to a breast wheel which spills the water over the wheel at mid-point. This change was made in 1979 when it was restored. He said he rebuilt the wheel twice since owning and operating this old beauty. It was fully operational until 7 years ago. The building on the right was a popular restaurant and also closed 7 years ago.

The area is still an active campground with 50 areas of rolling land. There are 47 beautiful, wooded campsites with full hookups, picnic tables and fireplaces.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL MY FLICKR FRIENDS

One advantage of getting older is that you can hide your own Easter Eggs........

With all the Easter egg hunts, stuffed bunnies and candy, it is easy to forget the true meaning of Easter. Let's all make sure that doesn't happen this year. I hope all of you and your families have a wonderful Easter.

A few years back, my brother, WT, gave me this wagon as one of my Christmas gifts. I have never put it away, it is always in our living room, usually full of stuffed bears.

I don't know why this made Explore it is so drab, I started not to post it.

Here is a link showing a photo of the courthouse taken from the street below. www.flickr.com/photos/by_jerry_jaynes/6177337431/
The population of Sylva as of the 2010 census was 2,588 (when I am home). Actually, I do not live in the city limits.

When we moved here in 1986, they pretty much rolled up the sidewalks by 7:00 pm, but now, thanks to some nice little restaurants and businesses, it is much more lively in the evenings.

Blue Ridge Parkway, VA

Once again I am living in my archives.

Mabry Mill is my favorite Grist Mill and one of the most photographed places on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The mill was operated by E.B. Mabry from 1910 - 1935. It was first a blacksmith and wheelwright shop, then a sawmill and then in 1905 a grist mill. By 1910 the front part of the mill was completed. If you would like to visit Mabry Mill, it is located at mile marker 176.2 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Near Roseman
Transylvania County, NC

Well, I am still in my archives until we get some better weather.

One of the great things about living in the Great Smoky Mountains is being surrounded by nearby beauty. Just a short drive puts us on the Blue Ridge Parkway and by exiting on NC 215 and heading toward Roseman, N.C. a few miles, is the property of Living Waters Ministries, so we pulled in and asked for their permission to take a few photographs. They are very nice and will allow you onto their property, but please stop and ask.

The French Broad Falls is just to the left of this one. The French Broad River begins in this area.

It was very bright so I had to use a ND x8 filter to cut the light so I could blur the water. Of course, my trusty tripod was also used. There is nothing more relaxing than Tripod Photography.

Almost every year one or two of our visitors are killed or injured by falling from waterfalls. Climbing on rocks or wadding across the rivers at the head or top of a waterfall is a sure way to get hurt of killed. Our rivers have many rocks along the bottom which are covered by slick moss. It is almost impossible to walk across a moss covered rock that is under water. Please be safe.

Amicalola Falls located in Amicalola State Park is near Dawsonville, GA. This is a 729 foot fall and continues under the observation bridge that I took this photo from. Amicalola is Cherokee meaning "Tumbling Waters". The park has 1,000 acreas and 12 miles of trails. It is the beginning of the 2,108 mile Appalachian Trail (pronounced Ap'pla-latch'-ian, go with the locals on this one)

A sturdy tripod and a quality ND filter is a must for this this type shot. I used a Gitzo GT 2531 tripod with a Markins M10 Head and a Hoya Pro Digital ND X8 filter. Your tripod is your friend.

The Masonic Temple
Cherokee Lodge #66
336 Broad Street
Rome, GA
Flyod County

This temple was built in 1877 and is the second temple to stand on this site. The first was burned by Sherman's Troops during the Civil War. Some of the Union soldiers were also Masons and realized that they had burned a temple. They raised a large sum of money and it was sent to rebuild the temple. All information from the following site... www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM3FMN_Cherokee_Lodge_66_Rome_Ga

Jefferson's restaurant is now in the corner of the building and if you look closely you can see the sidewalk tables on the side of the building. Since Buffy always travels with us, we are restricted in places that we can eat, during the warmer season. Today, most sidewalk restaurant restaurants allow you to bring your dog, so we ate here a couple of evenings.

The Claremont House
906 E. Second Ave
Rome, GA
Floyd County

The 8,000 sq ft Claremont House was built in 1882 by Colonel Hamilton Yancey. After the home was completed, his wife named it in honor of her favorite cousin, Clare de Graffenried. Three generations of the Yancey family lived in the home until it was sold at an auction in the 1960's.

In 1992 Jeff and Linda Williams began operating the home as a Bed & Breakfast. Since 2003 Holly & Chris McHaggee have owned and operated the Bed & Breakfast. As you can see by the chairs against the tree, it is a favorite wedding spot. Take a moment and visit the Claremont House Bed and Breakfast Facebook site. www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Claremont-House-Bed-and-Breakfa...
