Explore: Sep 1, 2010 #153

I passed this place on the N59 years ago on my way to Clifden on the West coast, at the time the rain was torrential and I was in a hurry to reach Clifden before sunset. I never stopped. For three years I've waited for the right weather and opportunity to return out this way and spent a whole afternoon and evening here. It paid off.

Taken with a Nikon D3x and Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6. I used a 10 stop screw in filter to achieve the movement in the clouds and the mirror like lake.

Completely manual exposure
Focal length: 10mm
Aperture: f18
Shutter speed: 181 seconds
ISO 200

Glenmacnass River, County Wicklow, Ireland aka "SB800 Goes For a Swim"

jogorman posted a photo:

www.bighugelabs.com/flickr/onblack.php?id=2394580106&...

So today was possibly the biggest (and most unexpected) test of my equipment. I placed two Nikon Speedlight SB800s on rocks to the left and right of me, these were to illuminate the foreground very lightly so as to counter balance the exposure from shooting into the sunset. Unfortunately for me there was a very strong wind coming in from the West which blew one of my SB800s into the river. This came to my attention after I noticed a faint flash come from a rock pool to the left of me, it must have been in there for 20 seconds before I dived in to retrieve it. Needless to say, after spending the entire night stripping the flash down to the circuitry and blowing warm air into the capacitors and motors the flash is working just fine, unlike me who had about 2 hours sleep last night.
