At Ship Cove, about to start our day tramp on the Queen Charlotte Track. A treat for our 2nd Wedding Anniversary - we loved having our overnight gear transported for us and only having to carry a day bag, then staying at a luxury lodge for the night before heading home!

At Outward Bound, near the accommodation blocks, there is a round walkway, which people can buy tiles for and have them inscribed.
These are some of the tiles that I took photos of when I was back visiting this summer - to me they encapsulate what I learnt at Outward Bound.

Some time last year, a dolphin watch catamaran smashed this cutter to pieces, which was devastating, as it was the cutter myself and 13 watchmates spent 3 days on at Outward Bound.
Thankfully it has been gorgeously restored!

The old wharf was really rickety, so it was replaced not long after I completed my course. The new wharf was a great spot to stop off at and reflect on the world

On our summer holiday, we spent three nights at Anakiwa, in the Marlborough Sounds. I took Mark for a walk through the Outward Bound School that is located there, and snapped a few shots that I didnt get while I was on course there 5 years ago because my camera died.

Today it was time to head back home to Wellington after our holiday.
The weather was fair to middling and I was not feeling 100%, so we packed up and left Anakiwa reasonably early to get over the windy roads before I felt any worse.
Instead, I started actually feeling better (yay for beating the illness!).
We got to Picton with 3 hours to fill in before we were due to check in on our ferry, so we played a round of mini golf, had lunch and went for a bit of a wander.
It was overcast and hot but with a cold breeze (and the same on the ferry) so we are both rather sunburnt...

Today Mark and I drove over to Picton to join a mail cruise up the Queen Charlotte Sound.
While we were in Endeavour Inlet, we fed some nearly tame blue cod and then saw the dolphins playing nearby.
Gorgeous.

Today Mark and I went for a drive out to Portage, in Kenepuru Sound. While we were having lunch, we spotted this Tui dining out in the flax bushes

We had taken the ferry and a bus to Christchurch, then picked up a rental car for the weekend, all in the name of being at Marks best mans engagement party... Then we drove the rental back to Picton and got a rough, late ferry sailing. This was the only thing that made it slightly bareable!

So, it was 1999 and I had spent the last six weeks of my summer holiday on exhange in Australia, including my first Christmas away from my family and had been hanging out for getting home for about a week...
We were late leaving Sydney as they had to remove a woman and her sick baby from the flight after their bags had been loaded.
As we neared NZ we were informed that the weather was really bad in Wellington and some flights werent landing, so Christchurch might have to be our destination for the afternoon...

Seeing the Sounds from the air really bought it home to me that I was nearly back with my family, who I had missed SO much (I was only 16 at the time!), and looking at the weather it seemed amazing that there was even a vague possibility of not landing in Wellington...
A few minutes later that weather view changed substantially. We made it though, and it wasnt really all that bad in the end - just a bit of a cross wind!
