This was an exercise on how to turn a dreacht, heavily overcast and low light situation into something that gives a hint of summer, but also create a romantic feel. Location is a favourite haunt: Hazlehead park.

Lighting:

Key Light: 430EX set to group A (E-TTL), 1:1 ratio. Silver bounce umbrella, 45° model left slightly above head height. No FEC.
Fill: Gold reflector model right.
580EX set to Master, flash disabled.
Rim light: Smith-Victor PG250S using a 3/4 CTO gel behind model. Set to model waist height, on a Manfrotto 682B monopod.

Camera: 85mm Lens, 1/80th, f1.8 ISO 100. Camera set to manual.

This session was cut short by the locals this is a montage of three images out of 10 from the location. The light was from a diffused Quadra head manually triggered after 1 second using the test button. Quadra was location camera right about a foot above model height.

Camera: 6s @ f/8 ISO 800.

The second image from the Production series of projects that's ongoing this year. This set was to be retro fashion involving a Triumph Roadster as the main set.

A deceptively simple image to look at but complex to process and light. This is a two light set up. The Quadra with a diffuser cap was to the front right of the model to form the key light (channel B, power unknown). with a fill light came from a 580EX with a skyport attached, this was set to manual 1/32 power and with diffuser panel down (14mm coverage). The 580EX was place to the rear of passenger seat with light bounced off the roof of the car. The main problem was balancing the 580EX with the Quadra, and ensuring minimal flare back from the chrome inside and outside the car.

Exposure was set to knock down the ambient about 1 stop.

Camera: 1/160th, f/7.1 @ ISO 100.

The award winning new building that replaced the Navigation Control Centre (or the Roundhouse as it's more commonly known). The tower stands at the entrance of Aberdeen at Footdee.

Taken at the July Scottish Meet Up event.

Publicity shot for Team Fudge/Aberdeen Voice. Pete and Brian are going to take the car from Aberdeen to Mongolia as part of the 2010 Mongol Rally. You can read more about this journey in the links below.

Lighting single Elinchrom Quadra with diffuser cap camera left.

Camera set to manual - 1/160th, f/5 @ ISO 100.

I also used a B+W Circular Polariser to cut the reflections in the glass and to reduce ambient light.

It's the Autumn of 1644 The Lord Montrose leads his army against Aberdeen in the War of the Three Kingdoms. The Forbes Covenanter's are training at Craigievar Castle in preparation to face his armies at Aberdeen.

This is from an Covenanter re-enactment camp in Summer 2005.

From the Dark Isles Series of prints I'm producing.

A late evening scene from River Sligachan towards the Black Cuillin, Isle of Skye. The two peaks Sgurr nan Gillean and Am Basteir are visible to the left and centre respectively.

This is a HDR composite of 5 exposures (30s to 1.6s) as I didn't have my ND grads, just a Singh-Ray Vari-ND. 3 Monochrome conversions as the channels started to break up plus some dodging and burning.

High Fashion shoot with a MUA, this models theme is Bird of Paradise and was the MUAs college assignment. This is her concept and design.

Lighting info:

430EX above models head pointing straight down bounced into a umbrella. Set to Group A.

580EX controlling the flash using IR and flash disabled.

White reflector front of model.

Shot with my favourite prime the Canon EF 85mm 1.8: f.2.8 @ 1/125th ISO 100.

A chambered tomb/burial cairn in the North of Scotland.

3 Flashes used, all using Canon IR system. 2 Flashes at either side of the throat pointing to the opposite wall. Zoom was left to default.

The chamber is natural light, and the flash on camera was switched off.

Exposure time was 4-5" @ F11, flash guns left to auto E-TTL1/E-TTL 2.
