Bear Gulch Cave

One of the highlights of Pinnacles National Park is the presence of two talus caves. These caves are not the "traditional" limestone caves with stalagmites and stalactites in it, but rather a cave formed by collapsing rocks enclosing a large area.
The caves are home to bats, and thus one should check if the caves are open before arriving at the park as they close seasonally.
Also bring a flashlight.

On the way to the Bear Gulch Caves in Pinnacles National Park. This isn't actually a cave, just a large rock arch on the trail out to it. I liked this trail much better than the one out to the Balconies Cave as it was much more shaded and cool.

The newest national park, Pinnacles boasts some very interesting geology. It's also hot... very hot if you visit from late spring to autumn. It was in the low 90s when I visited and even though the trail I took was relativity flat I was still drinking large amounts of water for the short distances I covered. Nice views though and the wildflowers were out. I'd highly recommend a visit during the cool seasons.

The St. Louis University Cheerleading squad performs during a break in the NCAA round of 32 match up between #12 Oregon Ducks and the #4 St. Louis Bilikens. For those of you wondering what the heck a Billiken is (as were my friend and I), it's that thing waving the chearleaders on... and that's about as specific as one can be because it's as made up a creature as Cthulhu.

Amplexus, or toad sex to lay people, is "The copulatory embrace of frogs and toads, during which the male fertilizes the eggs that are released by the female."

These toads are in a vernal pond at Pitcchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve. The blob of eggs visible underwater in front of the toads are California Newt (Taricha torosa) eggs. Toad eggs, for the record, are long strings of little black eggs in a thin layer of a jelly like coating.
