A bit of Baltimore. Well, quite a bit of Baltimore, taken from the viewing platform on the 27th floor of the World Trade Center, right on the harbour. If I tell you this is a crop from a panorama taken with an iphone, you might excuse me the artefacts. I mean, I obviously processed it to near-death anyway, but the starting point wasn't ideal.

Flying over the Millennium Dome/O2 Arena/Greenwich Arena/Greenwich Dome/Dome/London Dome/Mandelson Dome/WHSmith Arena or whatever it is. Reliably informed that the huge hole is for the Blackwall Tunnel vent. The new walkway over the top is clearly visible with the viewing platform in the middle. Form an orderly queue.

St Paul's Cathedral still maintains something of a brilliant magnificence as it sits surrounded by some really rather ordinary modern buildings. The much taller buildings maintain a discrete distance, for now.

The nearly newly finished Shard towers over a railway station of some description, some big wheel or other, the building with those fans in the roof, and the Houses of Parliament. And everything else. I'm not from round here. I don't know what half these things are.

I waited for seemingly ages to take this shot by which time is was quite cold up on Calton Hill and I couldn't hold my camera very still, so I deliberately underexposed it for a fast enough shutter speed to capture the detail. At least, I did that about 27 times and this is the best one. I think I still had a polarising filter on.

I'm not sure about this at all. I took quite few shots on this night and they were either badly composed, badly exposed or, as in this case, I appear to be falling over when I took it. You can't trust the spirit levels on your tripod. Its best to look and see whether its actually straight.
Not HDR, as I couldn't be bothered, but there is obviously no small amount of processing involved.

I spent ages doing this and it wasn't until I'd finished that I realised its actually a rather uninteresting photo. Corie made me do it. Do the HDR. Not be uninteresting.

A not particularly good night shot of the OXO Tower and St Pauls and stuff from the south side of the River Thames near Gabriel's Wharf and the London Television Centre.
Kind of here
Just goes to show I've fogotten how to take night shots and that you totally need a tripod, rather than balancing on a handrail and holding your breath.

Tower 42, 30 St Mary Axe and some other tall things. And lots of cranes. In 4 years, 30 St Mary Axe will no longer be visible to the human eye, unless you look down on it from a helicopter, like what I did.

Blah blah blah another photo from the top of the tower of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St John the Baptist up the road from where I do live in Norwich. I like this one because you can see Cantley, I think, which always makes me think of 'Bagman of Cantley'.

Taken from the top of the Nelson Monument on the top of Calton Hill at the top of Edinburgh. Everybody I spoke to who lived in Edinburgh said they'd never been up there. You never do if you live there.

I had been waiting ages to get up the tower again to take the daylight shot of the night time shot I'd previously done. The view is pretty much as in the original shot, although, of course, you can now identify most of what you can see - if you happen to know Norwich. I tried to process this in the same way too, but I couldn't quite be bothered to work it out, so this is probably as close at it gets. I took loads more from up here, but I won't bore myself with them.

Looking, um, east, from the top of the tower at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Norwich on a partially sunny day in September. I took a tripod up with me, which was no mean feat, but this was taken with my camera rammed against the stonework to get the best view and to hold it still for half a second in the wind. Its kind of all over the place with the angles and barrelling, but then, so am I.

I thought I might capture this scene before some monstrosity of a 21st century riverside apartment construction made of lego obliterates the view of a number of 1960s and 1970s monstrosities that are partitially obscured by some 1990s bland urban dwellings that dominate what's left of some original 14th & 15th century architecture that made this area what it was but what it now isn't.

The construction on the left is the beginning of the new river crossing that will enable those good folks who frequent the riverside bars to fall drunkenly into the river and drown ensuring that come 2011, the safety bars you see on the right will extend the entire length of the river on both sides, prohibiting access forever unless Mr Blink can get you the secret password for the electronic gate.
