If I had just been there 5 minutes earlier this would have looked better in my opinion. Some times you just can't unpack your gear fast enough. Also would have been cool to visit the following day when the clouds were all epically epic and awesome but I was busy watching the latest Batman movie while being sonically punched in the face by the movie sound system. I've been to raves that damaged my hearing less.

Had no idea this square, or the church for that matter, even existed until I was trying to find a parking spot nearby and drove by it. Pretty damn handy as I had no plans on what to shoot that morning. Maybe the perspective could have been different but I wanted a bit of a 'looking up the steps' feel to it.

Some free advice, don't patch out dust spots when mostly asleep. Or at least make sure your computer screen is spotless first.

Tuakau Bridge - The Halfway Point

So I've had the above photo since early June? I did the HDR process but couldn't decide if I liked it or not. The colors are greens, greys and pinks of the eastern clouds catching the sunset hues. When I saw Nick Twyford aka 2humerus's shot of the Bridge I thought maybe a B&W conversion might make me like it more. I don't do a lot of B&W work, bright colors are my drug of choice. So it took me quite a few goes to get something I think is halfway decent. In the end showing it to others they prefer the color so I give up. Anyway this is the B&W with a touch of sepia I'll post the color one after the weekend.

Check out Nicks work, not to be confused with the other Nick I've mentioned in the past, its amazing and beautiful work.

Just a quicky from this morning. So happy to see clear blue skies after driving through so much fog this morning.

Never been there before, I'm going to have to have a bit of an explore sometime. Heard Angles by The XX for the first time on George as I drove home. Nice one George! Have a listen while you soak up the morning sunshine.

AKA Chasing Luna

Around a month ago I started laying plans for a shot involving the full moon. I spent far more time on this than I should have. I visited the scene, planned the timing to the minute, the exposure count potentially needed, my route to and from the location.

It, of course, all went belly up. I was not very happy about this. I tried to be as philosophical as I could, you have to be. But it still smarted. So I had to make up Plan B overnight.

Plan B involved catching the moon setting in the west. This meant, for me, one of the west coast beaches near Auckland: Whatipu, Kare Kare, Piha, Bethells or Muriwai. I really liked what fellow Auckland based photographer Nick Langdon had done at Muriwai with the moon but in my haste got myself confused and went to Piha instead.

Title "Moon *_*" is thanks to Sol aka Nanihta, it sums up I think how I go googly eyed about the moon. Check out her work, I always find it very interesting and inspirational (and features pretty girls woohoo!)

What with work and fighting off the flu I didn't have any time to go traipsing about the place with my camera. Quite determined to make up for that this week, touch wood.

So say "Hi" to the Ironbank Building...we're looking at its backside which is not polite I guess, however its front is no where near as interesting as its bum. Which so far as I know is not the norm for most "interesting" buildings. From what I've read the Ironbank building tends to split peoples opinions. You either think its pretty cool or are of the opinion that its a few rotten lettuces shy of a stack of garbage bins.

Its been an interesting week. A lot of ups and downs. On the whole though a good week. A busy week. With the promise of big changes just around the corner. I feel rather zen and chill about it all right now though, philosophical if you will. Maybe someones been spiking my coffee with anti anxiety drugs or something?

Post process done to the melodious vocals of Regina Spektor singing "Small Town Moon" with me pausing to do the clapping...I get a little carried away sometimes.

I'd give anything to retake this, standing to the left a few more meters and using a different lens. Ah well.

Fun fact about me. I can't be away from the sea for extended periods without getting quite upset. Large bodies of water like lakes and some rivers work as replacements but on the whole if I'm away from the sea for months on end I feel like I'm holding my breath.
I am weird I'll be the first to admit it.
