Buenos Aires, December 28th, 2008. With my little point and shoot G9.
I was visiting a park in the city, just before leaving I saw this window, the light was beautiful, I felt it would be an interesting photo and decided to try a self portrait there. I put my little G9 on a piece of furniture, hit the timer, ran to the window and "click". I did that twice, this is the one I liked. Like many of my self portraits, I didn't plan this photo, I thought about how to pose, seized the moment and had to be quick. No fancy gear, no production.

Estava visitando um parque na cidade de Buenos Aires, antes de partir vi esta janela e a bela luz entrando, achei que seria uma foto interessante e decidi tentar um auto-retrato ali. Coloquei minha pequena G9 em cima de um móvel, apertei o timer, corri para a janela e "click". Fiz isto 2 vezes, esta é a que gostei. Como muitos dos meus auto-retratos, não planejei a foto, pensei rapidamente na pose que faria, aproveitei o momento e tive que ser rápida. Sem grandes equipamentos e nenhuma produção.

Refreshing nature of Water

From the trip I took last year with mom to this great resort in Goias which I ended up calling "Water World". The water there is very warm, crystal clear, so blue, just great!
I needed to be quick with this self portrait due to the water vapor, I set the R1 on the little tripod, hit the timer, ran back to the fall and click! I wanted to do it before I threw myself on those waters, once I did that, no more pics! This photo takes me back there, it's relaxing.
It's been so rainy around here, I'm tired of all the rainy days in the last months, grey sky, cold weather, rain, most of the time. Spring has come, I'm longing for warmer sunny days, more often.
... Wouldn't it be great if we could blink and be wherever we wanted?

self portrait taken in Nannai, Pernambuco, Brazil - July, 2009. (little tripod, timer and I ran to be in the frame in time)
After many busy months, dead lines, rushing and rushing, I felt the need to go somewhere quiet, peaceful, where the sun would be warm at this time of the year, recharge "some of my batteries". I reserved a week to fly away to Nannai, an amazing place to be. It's winter in Brazil, around 22/24 celsius there, It's also the rainy season, it rained almost everyday, even though I got to see the sun shine, beautiful blue water and sky! Good winter there I'd say, quite different from winter in Curitiba! If you're planning a trip to Brazil, if you want to be in a beautiful, comfortable place, close to nature, have great food and service, relax, this resort is an Excellent choice!
I wish I could have stayed longer, it already feels like a dream to me, now that I'm back in Curitiba.
Traveling is one of my Greatest Passions, in my opinion, it's one of the best investments in life. It's such a big world, so many wonderful places out there! Sometimes we need to take a break, rest, unplug, fly away... Live.

Auto-retrato tirado em Nannai, Pernambuco. Depois de meses ocupados, prazos e correria senti necessidade de ir a um lugar tranquilo, belo e quente nesta época do ano, recarregar algumas das baterias internas. Reservei 1 semana e voei para Nannai. Que lugar incrível! É "inverno" lá agora, temperatura variando entre 22, 23 graus, época de chuva, choveu quase todos so dias que estive lá e mesmo assim pude desfrutar o sol, céu azul, águas claras e limpas! Foi muito bom estar lá, ótimo inverno, risos, bem diferente do inverno de Curitiba!
Se você estiver pensando em um lugar lindo, aonde possa descansar e relaxar confortavelmente, comer bem, ter um ótimo serviço, curtir a natureza... este resort é uma opção excelente, recomendo! Gostaria de ter podido ficar mais, já parece um sonho agora que estou de volta. suspiro.
Viajar sempre foi uma das minhas Grandes Paixões, na minha opinião é um dos melhores investimentos na vida. É um mundo tão grande, tantos lugares incríveis por aí!
Ás vezes é necessário dar um tempo, descansar, desconectar do dia a dia, voar para longe... Viver!

this self portrait was taken in Niterói-RJ, the city I was born. My dear uncle Dutra, my late father's brother, took me to this spot in January (it was so very hot, I felt I would melt), it's considered unsafe to go there at the end of the day, I'm glad he went with me.
btw: I was attacked by bugs while trying to take this photo!

I met my beautiful friend Amihan in Chicago, we had a good time together! I wanted to take some photos of her and she would give me many excuses, hehe, but in our last afternoon together she finally gave in. :~)
We took a walk on Michigan, had lunch, went to the Field Museum and to the Marina. There I clicked her for a little while, it was such a hot day, that was the difficult part, very hot , hard to be in the sun.
There were many people walking by, some kids even asked us if Amihan were a model, if I were clicking her for some magazine... so funny, since I had a little camera in my hands and nothing else!
This is one of my favorites of her, she couldn't believe when I asked her to lie on the grass, lol, but I knew what I wanted. :~)

Estive com minha amiga Amihan em Chicago, passamos bons momentos juntas. Queria tirar umas fotos dela mas ela sempre tinha uma desculpa, rs, até q cedeu no nosso último dia juntas.
Fomos a Marina e lá fotografamos um pouco, estava muito quente, difícil ficar no sol. Tinha muita gente passando, alguns meninos vieram perguntar se ela era modelo e se eu estava tirando fotos para alguma revista, engraçado mesmo, a única coisa q eu tinha era uma maquininha na mão e nada mais! rs
Esta é uma das minhas favoritas dela, ela não acreditou qdo pedi que deitasse na grama, risos :~)

For different reasons I'd been stressed and pretty tired the last couple of months. Stress is like poison, I'm starting the necessary steps in order to reverse and avoid it. I'm thankful to have flown away with my mother for some days, we spent Mother's Day in a very special place which I called "The Water World"...It was the perfect get away, water is my fuel. I was able to relax a little, be away from the daily rush, unplug from my pc, I thought about many things that have happened.
I don't understand why some people think Photographers who are not "famous" should work for free or for a bargain. What the hell is that? Photography is a tough profession, highly competitive, gear is quite expensive, treating photos is time consuming and one's talent has to be worth more than a few bucks! Great photos last forever.. I'm done with this kind of thing.
In the last year there have been some people who took advantage of me in different ways, some I clicked in "partnership" but it turned out being a one way partnership, I worked for many hours on their photos and a few didn't do what they said they would. I'm a "believer", a woman of my word, I expected they would act according to theirs, to my surprise they didn't.
I'll no longer put up with ones who lack with consideration and respect. I'll be more careful not to waste my time with those who pretend an interest to hire me just to get to know what I would do and how.
When time comes I'll try choosing models for my personal projects even more carefully and keep my mouth shut about any other future projects I have in mind.
I've started my career by myself, honestly, ethically. I've never tried to diminish other photographer's work just to make myself look better, never gone after other professionals clients trying to convince them to click with me, these kind of lame attitudes. I'm sorry there are some people like that aiming at my direction.
Sometimes I wonder why there are so many snakes trying to backstab others.
It would be a healthier environment if more people realized it's a big world and there is space for everybody.
It would be great having more genuine nice people around. I'm greateful for the ones I know, including many who visit me here. :~)
Even with these unpleasant things, the difficult times, my grieve in the last year, I'm glad to realize my usual smile is coming back to my face, slowly but it is. This is one of a few photos I got to see it again. :~)
I'm beginnig a new phase, hopefuly free of such people.

Passei uns dias longe com minha mãe, fomos para um lugar que chamei de "O Mundo das Águas", foi mto bom para desestressar um pouco, relaxar e poder pensar em várias coisas.
Uma delas é que não entendo porque algumas pessoas acham que um Fotógrafo Profissional que não é "famoso" deveria clicar de graça ou por uma barganha Que estória é essa? Fotografia é uma profissão cara, os equipamentos são caros, tratar imagens leva muito tempo e o Talento de alguém tem que valer mais do que alguns trocados! Ninguém contrata um advogado de graça, nem médico, professor, consultor, personal trainer, manicure, cabelereiro, etc! Fotografia é uma profissão séria e que demanda muito do profissional se ele for entregar um trabalho de qualidade! Grandes fotos duram para Sempre! Chega deste tipo de coisa.

It's been One Year I suddenly lost my beloved father from an unexpected fulminating stroke. He passed away on a Friday 13th, the worst day in my life. One year of Grieve, putting myself together, one day after the other.
It was traumatic, I've never cried as much, never hurt that much. I hadn't really learned the meaning of Despair till then. it's been a long process. He was the joy in our lives, our Anchor.

It was in the middle of a real storm, one I'd never expected, most powerful than I could've ever imagined, that I learned how strong and fragile I could be. One doesn't learn that until Darkness comes with no short notice... A water divisor I wish it hadn't happened.
I've learned a lot about myself and people in general after this.
I also learned who my real friends are, not that many, by the way, but priceless. Some stayed by my side, others revealed they weren't such good friends... and there were a few who surprised me, who checked on me from time to time to see how I was doing, offered me help, sincerely and not afraid I could accept it. I call it even.
I thank those good old friends and the new ones, for their support, compassion, their Friendship. I thank my boyfriend, my Family and my Brother, who has become our anchor.
and my Flickr friends who kept visiting and posting on my photos, even when I spent months hardly commenting on anyone's.
One doesn't remain the same after such loss. I haven't. Life is, indeed, short... and it can end from one minute to the other. I'm learning to say "I love you" more often, to give my love more often to the ones who matter.
In the last year my ambitions have also changed, I want to be happy doing what I do, I don't want to change the way I see the world and people through my lenses in order to fit where some people may think I should. Life is too short for that. I'll stand with the ones who appreciate, value, what I do.
As a person, I'll stand with good people, the strong in character, the ones who know the value of friendship, love. I want to be the best person I can, honor the man my father was and everything he taught me.
I learned so much from him, he was a Genuine Good, Unselfish, Loving Person. A Real Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Friend. A Great Man, with an amazing Character (one either has it or not, there's no mid term for that) a man of his Word. He was so Unique, died young... full of plans, full of life. The World is a sadder place without him.
It's with tears going down that I dedicate this self portrait to Him, who was never afraid to show the ones he loved how much he cared, who helped others, who raised his family with all his heart, love, tenderness. A man I'll miss till the end of my life.

I wanted to have a photo of myself with the Sirens... here it is :~)
It's not quite like I had imagined it, but close to it.
I had to do it pretty fast though, the sun was already setting and I still had many photos to shoot.
(did you notice I am wearing Canon colors? ;~) but it is a sony taking this one, I'm a fan of both)
We hit the road to the beach right after lunch time, got there around 3 PM but started clicking at 5:30 PM, 2 and a half hours of delay, which I did not expect.
It was the biggest challenge I've had clicking girls so far, besides being very hot, unexpected things happened in the process, even being on a Wednesday, the beach was full of people, we had a big audience... that didn't help me at all, among other things.
I got exausted that day, but it was worth it in the end and I've got some beautiful photos to share with you!

Eu queria ter uma foto minha com as sereias :~) não saiu bem como eu tinha imaginado, mas gostei! Tive que fazer a foto bem rápido pois o sol já tinha começado a se por e eu ainda tinha muitas fotos a clicar.
Pegamos a estrada para a praia logo depois do almoço e chegamos por volta das 3 da tarde. Só comecei a fotografar as 17:30, tivemos 2 horas e meia de atraso, o que eu não esperava!
Foi o maior desafio que tive até então fotografando mulheres, além de estar muito quente, ocorreram imprevistos, apesar de ser uma Quarta-feira a praia estava bem cheia, tivemos uma boa audiência... o que não me ajudou, entre outras coisas! Fiquei exausta desta vez, mas valeu e tenho belas fotos para compartilhar com vocês! :~)

I think PS is really great! I also think that it's not necessary loads of PS effects to come up with a beautiful photo, to me a photo should already be beautiful on the lcd of my camera.
