Chimera 2

javajive posted a photo:

Sometimes there’s so much beauty in the world I feel like I can’t take it, like my heart’s going to cave in.

- Ricky Fitts, American Beauty

A volcanic journey only hours from my home in Indonesia. The fading sunlight provided only a moment to capture these rays before they gave up the struggle to night.

Near Bandung, Indonesia - on the other side of the volcano: Tangkuban Perahu.

With the worlds' eyes focusing on Mount Merapi, I'd like to make note that although Indonesia has the world's highest density of volcanoes, most are actually quite safe and extraordinarily beautiful. I've had the opportunity to climb two in the past two weeks and will do my best to bring forth the stunning views afforded by hiking these giants.

The same image as yesterday, but this was better exposed for the tea plantation in the foreground. I think I like this version much better. I will make a 120cm x 80cm print of this tomorrow; hope it turns out!

I feel like so much of my time here is spent capturing people and human interest that I rarely have taken the time to do landscapes. I know that when I do return to the States, the immense variety in mountains, desert, rolling hills, and cityscapes will be at my disposal, but I’d still like to see what I can do with the Indonesian countryside.

These few moments brought back powerful memories of other places and other times. The incredible smell of dew on the grass, the musk of rich soil, and the complete solitude that comes from escaping the fact that I live on the most densely populated island in the world.

www.thejavajive.com/blog

This one has more exposure in the foreground, with the tea plantations in view. Which do you prefer?
