Star trails at Happisburgh

Perseid meteor shower viewed from the east coast of the UK by my son and I tonight. Image shows one of the shooting stars with the star trails revolving around Polaris. Have stacked around 30 images to obtain this shot.

This lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse in East Anglia and the only one in the UK to be independently operated.

Happisburgh once had two lighthouses. Aligned with one another, they marked a safe passage for sailors around the Haisbro Sands. during very low tides, the brick remains of the lost 'Low Light' can sometimes still be seen from the shore.
In 1988 the distinctive red and white lighthouse was selected for closure.

Villagers launched a petition and set up Friends of Happisburgh Lighhouse. In 1990, the group took on its management. Local fundraising and a donation from NatWest bank had paid for the Private Member's Bill necessarey to designate the Happisburgh Lighthouse Trust as an 'Established Lighthouse Authority'.

Old wooden sea defenses at Happisburgh, Norfolk coast. Still offereing some protection from the high tides eroding the cliffs. Love the craftmanship that went into these and the way they get bleached by the sun over the years, much prettier than the modern rocks and cement blocks they throw down nowadays.

HDR image of abandoned house on Happisburgh Cliffs just a good storm away from total destruction.

This must be the only sea front residence I know of where you need crampons and a rope to get to your garden shed.
