Motts Lane Rail Crossing Witham – A Sad Reminder to Fellow Users

For all those who use Motts Lane crossing regularly, like myself, it’s hard not to be touched by this tragic incident. When you cross here constantly to get to the Witham industrial areas for work, crossing this major rail line to London Liverpool Street, becomes second nature. I have crossed many times when the red light was on, as do nearly all us regular users, and for what? To save a couple of seconds off the journey? Sometimes I have found myself daydreaming or busy looking at my phone and not paying the full attention the crossing deserves. These flowers and burning candles last as a reminder of the dangers of crossing the train tracks. The forthcoming pedestrian bridge being built at this site soon, will sadly arrive a little too late for one man. My heart goes out to all his friends and family.

Whilst on my recent wintery visit to RAF Rivenhall, apart from the sad discovery the hanger had gone, I grabbed a couple of Snow pictures. The snow is much thicker now so I bet it looks even whiter now.

Oddly these two concrete blocks still seem to be here for some reason. They would have been around the entrance some ware but I can't remember seeing them before?

I knew this day was coming, but still a little sad to find hanger no 2 completely wiped of the face of the planet. In the centre of the shot should be the quietly rusting WWII aircraft hanger, but it has been demolished to make way for an Incinerator planned to be built here on the old airfield.

My camera is longing to go exploring, It's had enough taking baby photos, as cute as they are I hope to get back into my photography soon. I did however get some nice shots on a little caravanning holiday near Clacton-on-sea, earlier this year, hope you like.

Shelter in the Woods

I found an old Shelter buried in some woodland at the abandoned RAF Rivenhall. It's very unusual because it's a concrete arch shape, with a brick corner entrance at one end, and completely berried with earth piled around it. This end has collapsed in on itself.
